Howard Hazen Fleetwood

     Note: Howard Fleetwood and his brother George were placed in an orphanage and may or may not have been adopted by the Swanstroms, who adopted their sisters Madeline and Muriel, presumably shortly after the death of their mother in 1926 -- the Swanstroms are listed in the 1920 census with no children, and the 1930 census listings are annotated "Adopt." An online post by a relative indicates the boys were brought home by the Swanstroms for holidays.

Howard Hazen Fleetwood was born on 21 January 1912 at Sandpoint, Bonner Co., ID, Idaho Birth and Stillbirth Index, 1913-1964.1,2 He was the son of Arthur Herbert Fleetwood and Rosetta Hazen.1 Howard Hazen Fleetwood married Lena Oleta Farrar, daughter of William Burton Farrar and Emma Davalt, on 10 May 1943 at Sanders Co., MT. Howard Hazen Fleetwood and Lena Oleta Farrar were divorced before 1962; In 1962, Howard remarried to Shirley June (Norton) Leitz. Howard Hazen Fleetwood died in 1997 at Maple Valley, King Co., WA. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saint Maries, Benewah Co., ID, Findagrave #88006622, cremated.

Amy Conaway

Mrs. Amy Conaway, 85, of Westminster and formerly of Winfield, wife of the late Jay Earl Conaway, died Sunday at a hospital.

Born in Woodbine, she was the daughter of the late Otho P. and Cordellia Mullinix Fleming. She was a member of Ebeneezer United Methodist Church in Winfield, and the Ladies Aid Society of the Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Pearl E. Myers of Westminster; two sons, Jay
W. Conaway of Winfield, and Mayor LeRoy L. Conaway of Westminster; also a sister, Mrs. Elsie Grimes of Baltimore.

Friends may call at the Burrier Funeral Home, 6-9 p.m. today and Tuesday.

Services will be held at the funeral home, 11 a.m., Wednesday with the Rev. Glenn H. Hickman, pastor of Ebeneezer United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Ebeneezer Cemetery in Winfield.

On May 13, 1979, AMY, of Westminster, beloved wife of the late Jay Earl Conaway and devoted mother of Mrs. Pearl E. Myers, Jay W. Conaway, and Leroy L. Conaway and sister of Mrs. Elsie Grimes, Edward Fleming and Fred Fleming. Also survives by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Beth Harrell, age 88 of Louisville, died at 12:15 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at the Flora Care Center, Flora, IL.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 1999, in the Chapel of the Neal Funeral Home, Louisville. Burial was in Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville.

Mrs. Harrell was born September 7, 1970 (sic) in Richland County, IL., the daughter of Clyde and Elsie (Blair) Fleming. She married Ralph L. (Mike) Harrell in 1940 (sic) and he preceded her in death in 1963.

Mrs. Harrell was a retired school teacher & retired social worker, she was a member of Louisville Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Mike Harrell, Carbondale, IL; one daughter, Mary Beth Grosse, Zionsville, IN., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Conaway--Fleming

The wedding of Miss Ethel L. Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter O. Fleming, Winfield, to Jay W. Conaway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay E. Conaway, Winfield, took place, Saturday afternoon at three o'clock in the Winfield Church of God, Bethel, amid a setting of palms and garden flowers. A former pastor of the bride, Rev. C. O. Sullivan, Frederick, performed the double ring ceremony.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, and wore a gown with a brocaded satin bodice with a net covered skirt, designed with a high neckline and three-quarter length sleeves. A finger tip veil caught with a white beaded crown complemented the costume. The bridal bouquet was composed of white carnations and baby's breath.

Miss Mildred Gue, Mount Airy, was matron of honor and was attired in pastel pink net with shoulder length veil falling from a halo of flowers. She carried an old fashioned bouquet, tied with blue ribbon.

Miss Hazel Pickett, Washington, D. C., cousin of the bride, and Miss Mary Louise Barth, Woodbine, were bridesmaids, and were in costumes of pastel blue and duplicated in style the matron of honor. Both carried old-fashioned bouquets tied with pink ribbon.

Earnest Fleming, Woodbine, was best man. The ushers were Leroy Conaway, brother of the groom, and Norman Pickett, Woodbine, cousin of the bride.

The flower girl, Deanna Sprague, Quantico, Virginia, niece of the bride, wore a miniature gown of blue. She carried a basket of old-fashioned flowers, from which she strewed the flowers to the alter.

A half-hour musical program was given by Mr. Ralph Rexroth, organist, and Mr. Paul Matz, soloist, both of Baltimore. Mr. Rexroth played, "Londonderry Air" "Old Refrain", and "Andante Cantabile", by Widor. Mr. Matz sang "O Perfect Love" and "I Love You Truly".

The bride's mother was attired in pastel blue and wore a corsage of white carnations and baby's breath.

The groom's mother wore floral jersey with a corsage of white carnations and baby's breath.

The groom served in the armed forces during the war, in the 14th Air Force, CBI Theater, and was in the service three years.

After the wedding ceremony, the bride's parents served a wedding supper at there home to the following guests:

Later in the evening the bride cut a three-tier wedding cake adorned with a miniature bride and groom.

The couple left for a wedding trip to Virginia Beach. Upon their return the will reside at the home of the bride for the present.

Ethel L. Fleming died after May 2017.
