He Wants A Divorce

From the Baltimore Sun, Feb. 20.

Mrs. Sarah E. Franklin, who was married December 19, 1878, and is the mother of eight children, preferred the excitement of a women's lodge to the comforts of home, according to a bill for absolute divorce filed in Circuit Court No. 2 yesterday by her husband, Chas. S. Franklin, through John H. Grill, attorney.

The direful results that followed when Mrs. Franklin joined the lodge are graphically set forth in the bill of complaint, which is unique, as Mr. Franklin tells of his troubles in the first person. The following is part of the complaint:

"Up to a period of about three or four years prior to their separation his wife was all a good and faithful wife should be to her husband, when, alas for me! she joined a women's lodge, and then my pleasure was at an end, and she would go to the meeting of the said lodge against my wish and consent, would come home at any and all unseemly hours, would visit adjacent cities on lodge business, so I was informed, and I and my home were neglected. This state of affairs continued until I could bear the same no longer and after I protested in vain I was told that before the defendant would withdraw from the woman's lodge I could leave home, which I did."

Then Mr. Franklin charges his wife with unfaithfulness.

Mr. and Mrs. Franklin were married in Carroll county, Maryland, and separated December 6., 1903, when, he alleges, he was compelled to leave his wife because of her misconduct. Seven of their eight children survive -- two sons, aged respectively 24 and 22 years, and five daughters, aged respectively 21, 19, 17, 15 and 12 years. Mr. Franklin asks the custody of the minor children.

HE GETS NO DIVORCE

Charles S. Franklin Said Wife Preferred Lodge To Home.

FAILED TO PROSECUTE CASE

Complaint is Dismissed Under Rule Of Court Because The Proceeding Was Not Followed Up.

Judge Harlan signed an order yesterday, as of Circuit Court? ? No. 2, dismissing the bill of complaint of Charles S. Franklin against Sarah E. Franklin for an absolute [de]vorce, which was filed February 19 last and charged unfaithfulness. An answer filed by Mrs. Franklin February 24 denied the charge. Under a rule of the court the bill was dismissed because the plaintiff failed to continue the proceedings in the case. They were married in December, 1878, and have seven children living.

In his bill applying for a divorce, Mr. Franklin alleged that his troubles started about four years ago when his wife joined a women's lodge. Continuing, he said in the bill: "She would go to the meeting of said lodge against his wish and consent, would come home at any and all unseeingly hours, and would visit adjacent cities on lodge business, so he was told, and he and his home were neglected. After he protested in vain, he was told that before the defendant would withdraw from the woman's lodge he could leave their home, which he did." John

H. Grill was attorney for the plaintiff and Harry E. Scherf for the defendant.

Application filed April 13, 1891, Serial No. 388,670. (No model)
To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELHANAN H. FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berrett, in the County of Carroll and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivating-Plows, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to that class of cultivating-plows in which the drag-bars are laterally adjustable to work the shovels closer together or farther apart.

The main objects in view are to provide for the lateral movement of the drag-bars at one side of the plow independent of those at the other side, to provide for raising the drag-bars on pivots to elevate the shovels from the ground, and to provide an improved construction of colter and wheel to facilitate side-hill plowing.

To this end the invention consists in the novel features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
