Earl Eugene Fox died on 31 May 2004 at Miamisburg, Montgomery Co., OH, at age 79. He was buried in June 2004 at Davids Cemetery, Kettering, Montgomery Co., OH, Findagrave #40558934.

     Edward Lewis Fox was born on 3 July 1908 at Montgomery Co., OH. He was the son of Lewis Edward Fox and Alpha Omega Gebhart. Edward Lewis Fox died on 20 February 1990 at Middletown, Butler Co., OH, at age 81.

     Edwin Lloyd Fox was born on 11 August 1891 at Kingsville, Ashtabula Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Adelbert Alvin Fox and Arrie Jane Fuller.¹ Edwin Lloyd Fox began military service in 1917 WW I service, U.S. Navy. He married Ermile Marie Swartz, daughter of Franklin Swartz and Flora M. Bailey, on 14 June 1923 at Kalamazoo, Calhoun Co., MI. Edwin Lloyd Fox died on 7 February 1965 at Michigan at age 73

Edwin Fox, Ex-Postmaster For Athens, Is Dead at 73

ATHENS -- Edwin Lloyd Fox, 73, of 316 S. Avenue A, a long time resident of the Athens area, its Postmaster under four presidents, and in his youth a championship baseball pitcher for the village, died about 1 p.m. Sunday in a Battle Creek hospital. He had been ill for six months.

Mr. Fox was born in Kingsville, Ohio, Aug. 11, 1891, son of Adelbert and Arrie Jane (Fuller) Fox, and moved here with the family as a child in 1896. In high school, he was a pitcher for the Athens High School baseball team that in 1909 and 1910 won what was then known as the state championship of Michigan. His brother, A. Roy Fox, was catcher on the battery.

Mr. Fox graduated from high school in 1912, and from 1913 to 1917 was a rural mail carrier out of Athens. In December, 1917, he joined the U.S. Navy for World War I, and served until March, 1919.

In 1920, he became Athens postmaster, holding the position under Presidents Harding, Coolidge, Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Leaving the postmaster position in 1935, he worked as postal clerk until 1937, when he went to work for the Eaton Manufacturing Co. in Battle Creek. He was in the plant protection department, retiring in 1953.

From 1937 to 1942, he was a member of the Athens School Board, and was its president the last two years of his service.

Mr. Fox was a life member of Athens Lodge No. 220, F&AM, a member of Athens Lodge No. 146, RAM, and was a member of Athens Congregational Church.

He was married June 14, 1923, to Miss Ermile Swartz, who survives. In addition, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Jeanne Marie) Schier of 356 Country Club Terrace in Battle Creek; two granddaughters; four brothers, A. Roy Fox of Athens, Dr. Joe Fox of Wingham, Ont., George Fox of 169 Bryant Ave., Battle Creek, and Marion Fox, Athens Towsnship supervisor.

He was buried in February 1965 at Burr Oak Cemetery, Athens, Calhoun Co., MI, Findagrave #7259705.

     Ethel A. Fox was born. She was the daughter of William H. Fox and Irma May Frick.¹ Ethel A. Fox married Samuel Russell Prizer, son of Francis Newton Prizer and Ella Wagner, on 1 August 1923.¹

     Florence Fox was born on 7 August 1909 at Ohio. She married Everett Robert Wilkin, son of George Robert Wilkin and Hattie E. Williams, on 10 December 1924 at Highland Co., OH. Florence Fox died on 6 September 1999 at Highland Co., OH, at age 90.

     Franklin C. Fox married Laura V. (?).¹ Franklin C. Fox was born circa 1861 at Maryland.¹

     George Ward Fox was born on 2 January 1887 at Kingsville, Ashtabula Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Adelbert Alvin Fox and Arrie Jane Fuller.¹ George Ward Fox married Myrtella Howard Fonda, daughter of Alfred S. Fonda and Isabel A. Howard, on 23 November 1910 at Athens Twp., Calhoun Co., MI.² George Ward Fox lived in 1935 at Ionia, Ionia Co., MI. He lived in April 1940 at 196 Dexter Blvd., Detroit, Wayne Co., MI. He died on 26 November 1966 at Battle Creek, Calhoun Co. (probably), MI, at age 79

George W. Fox

George W. Fox, 79, of 169 Bryant St., a former Athens resident who retired to Battle Creek four years ago, died Saturday morning at a local hospital where he had been a patient 10 days. He had been in failing health one year. Mr. Fox was born Jan. 2, 1887, in Kingsville, Ohio, a son of Adelbert A. and Arrie Jane (Fuller) Fox. He moved with his family as a child to a farm in Sherwood Township of Branch County and then to Athens in 1903. He was graduated from Athens High School in 1907 and attended Albion College. He was married to Myrtella H. Fonda Nov. 23, 1910 at Athens. The couple moved to Ionia and Mr. Fox was employed by Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Co. as traffic manager for 13 years. Moving to Detroit, he was employed by Ex-Cell-O Corp. as a machinist until retiring in 1955. Mr. Fox is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Marie) Zimmerman of Urbana, Ill; and two brothers, Roy Fox of Route 1, Athens, and Marion A. Fox of 228 W. Mill St., Athens.

     Gilda Omega Fox was born on 17 August 1901 at Montgomery Co., OH. She was the daughter of Lewis Edward Fox and Alpha Omega Gebhart. Gilda Omega Fox married Lewis Allen Wical, son of Peter Rufus Wical and Ida May Conklin, on 22 March 1923. Gilda Omega Fox died on 3 May 1993 at Miamisburg, Montgomery Co., OH, at age 91.      Harold Benedict Fox was born on 11 January 1924 at Keymar, Carroll Co., MD.¹ He was the son of Robert L. Fox and Edith Lavinia Benedict.¹ Harold Benedict Fox married Mary Mandella Morter, daughter of Alvey Fox Morter and Ada Elizabeth Barr, on 6 April 1948 at Franklin Co., PA.      Hazel Arvilla Fox was born on 1 May 1896 at Colorado. She married Albert Lindy Coates, son of David Bailey Coates and Sarah Adeline Windle, on 18 March 1912 at Vale, Malheur Co., OR. Hazel Arvilla Fox died in September 1984 at Payette Co., ID, at age 88. She was buried in September 1984 at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, Payette Co., ID.

John A. Fox, age 80, 608 Milwaukee St., Kewaunee, Wis., died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at the Fountains of Kewaunee. He was born March 24, 1920 at Athens, Mich. to the late Marion and Mary (Snyder) Fox. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Mich. He was employed by the Upjohn Co. for 37 years as a research Biochemist. He moved to Minnesota for a short time, then moved to Kewaunee in 1986. John was an Eagle Scout and served as a scout leader for many years, coached youth sports and was instrumental in establishing the Door/Kewaunee Chapter of the Ice Age Trail and Park Foundation. He was an avid camper through his 79th year. John served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include Della Fox, Kewaunee; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Connie Fox, Robert Fox, Timothy Fox, all of Michigan; Andrew Rey, Benjamin and Cathi Rey, all of Minnesota; one granddaughter, McKayla Rey, Minnesota; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Margaret Fox, South Carolina; one sister, Patricia Auten, Michigan; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A private family service will be held at a later date.

     Dr. Josiah Alvin Fox was also known as "Joe". He was born on 12 October 1885 at Kingsville, Ashtabula Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Adelbert Alvin Fox and Arrie Jane Fuller.¹ Dr. Josiah Alvin Fox married Viola May Walkley, daughter of Alfred Walkley and Emma Lenora Hibbs, on 22 May 1909 at Union City, Calhoun Co., MI, Alfred Walkley's 1942 obituary states he left 11 grandchildren. Counting the grandchildren of his other children, Mervin, Ralph, and Emmet, as of the 1940 census there were nine surviving. Therefore, it is clear that Viola and her husband had at least two children. DLB 2020. Dr. Josiah Alvin Fox died circa 1966 at Wingham, Huron Co., Ontario, Canada, Dr. Joe Fox, Wingham, Ontario is listed as a survivor in his brother Edwin's obituary (FEB 1965) but not listed in his brother George's obituary (NOV 1966).      Kathryn Fox married Ralph W. E. Young, son of John E. Young and Sarah Samantha Price, at Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE.¹ Kathryn Fox was born on 7 May 1899.¹ She was the daughter of Henry Fox and Kathryn Kommal.

     Leo Andrew Fox was born on 10 November 1901 at Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Charles Sylvester Fox and Gertrude J. Miller. Leo Andrew Fox married Miriam Annette Stover, daughter of Harvey McLaughlin Stover and Teresa Rauch, in 1937. Leo Andrew Fox lived on 16 April 1940 at 331 East Chestnut Street, Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH, Deputy and clerk, Sheriff's office.¹ He died on 6 March 1970 at Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH, at age 68. Mrs. Zimmerman received a master's degree in psychology at the University of Illinois in 1958 and was an assistant professor of psychology in student counseling and a clinical counselor at the UI.

She served in the Army from 1946-1949 in Germany following World War II.

Marion A. "Red" Fox
Civic leader was ex-Athens Township supervisor

ATHENS -- Marion A. "Red" Fox, 91, of W. Mill St., a former Athens Township supervisor and long active in community and county affairs, died Thursday, Jan. 26, in Mercy Pavilion.

He was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, and came to Athens as a boy. He graduated from Athens High School, where he was pitcher on the Athens State Championship Baseball Team.

He was a rural letter carrier in Athens from 1917 to 1958. During his 40-year career, he drove nearly one-half million miles with the Postal Service, beginning in a Model T. After retiring, he was employed by Spencer Funeral Home. After retirement, he wintered in Lakeland, Fla.

He served 25 years as a Scout leader and Scoutmaster and had received the Scouting Silver Beaver Award. He had worked 20 years with the Athens Girls Softball League, taking participants to state championships. He was a longtime member of Athens Congregational Church, where he was a member of the board of trustees, a Sunday School superintendent, church secretary and Sunday School teacher. He worked with Athens Homecoming Committee and was emcee at homecoming talent shows.

He was a member of Rural Letter Carriers Association and served five times as county president. He was an active member and president of the Calhoun County Republican Party; served as Athens Township supervisor from 1959 to 1969; was a member of Calhoun County Fair Board; chairman of Calhoun County Medical Examiners Board; a member of Calhoun County Board of Supervisors; an honorary member of Rotary Club; a member of the Athens Cemetery Board and Athens Community Association; and a charter member of Athens Historical Society. In 1975, he was made honorary citizen of the year.

Surviving is a daughter, Patricia L. Auten of Battle Creek; sons John A. Fox of Keewaunee, Wis., and Dr. Richard C. Fox of Anderson, S.C; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

His wife of 64 years, Mary R. Snyder, died in 1981.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spencer Funeral Home. Memorial donations may go to the Athens Historical Society.
