Mrs. Lois Nothacker Dies in California
Word of the death of Mrs. Lois Gerling Nothacker, well-known among the younger set of Rochester, in Alameda, Calif., was received here yesterday. A graduate of Livingston Park Seminary, she was a member of the original Eastman Theater ballet.

Mrs. Nothacker, granddaughter of the late Jacob Gerling, continued her theatrical career in New York and later traveled with the San Carlo Opera Company and the Philadelphia Civic Opera Company.

She leaves her husband, Wilbur F. Nothacker; two sons, Frederick Nothacker and an infant son; her father, Fred C. Gerling; four sisters, Jean, Phyllis, Jacquelyn and Gwendolyn, all of Alameda, and a number of relatives in Rochester.

COLUMBUS - Robert B. "Bob" Gero, age 77, died peacefully at Columbus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, Wis., on Monday, July 3, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Robert was born on May 4, 1929, the son of Paul Essex Gero and Alice Breining Gero in Manistique, Mich. After the death of his father, he and his mother moved to Ypsilanti, Mich., and lived with his grandparents.

Bob graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, N.J., in 1947 and from Rutgers University in 1951, where he received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. At Rutgers, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilion (TKE) fraternity, Alpha Zeta an honorary fraternity, and Army R.O.T.C. Upon graduation he served in the Army Infantry at Fort Benning, Ga., San Marcos, Texas, and Indiantown Gap, Pa.

After active duty, Bob served in the Active Reserves in the Civil Affairs and Military Government Unit in Binghamton, N.Y. He was married to the former Anne Schneider on Sept. 17, 1955, in Sharon Hill, Pa. Bob was an avid reader, he loved to garden, he enjoyed playing golf, and travel. In the past several years, he enjoyed traveling to see his grandchildren on either coast.

He was a charter member of the Jaycees in Hamilton, N.Y., and a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Columbus. He especially enjoyed working with his children in their sports activities. He coached Little League baseball while his son played and girls' softball for his daughters. His team that he coached with Len Ballweg had the distinction of an unbeaten season (12 games).

Bob was involved in agricultural sales until his retirement in 1999. He worked for Baugh Chemical in Oneida, N.Y; Rudy-Patrick and W.R. Grace & Company in Princeton, Ill., and Columbus. He also worked for Tracy & Son Farms of Janesville. For 25 years he owned and operated B & A Sales. His business location was in the former Kaasa Seed Building in Columbus.

Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of more than 50 years, Anne; children, Margaret "Peggy" DaValt of Columbus, son, Paul (Nicki) Gero of Ladera Ranch, Calif., Mary (Scott) Gronholz of Beaver Dam, and Ruth Anne (David) Adams of North Carolina; and his six grandchildren, Stefanie and Jacob Gronholz, Robert "Zeke," Sara Anne, and Mary Jo Adams, and Katherine Frances Gero. Also surviving are a step-brother, Paul (Eileen) Reeves; half-sister, Alisa Clark; half-brother, John Daniel Clark; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Gero and Alice Gero Clark; step-father, John Clark; and half-sisters, Ada Patricia Steele and Jonnie Judith McGovern.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at ST. JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m. at JONES-JENSEN FUNERAL AND CREMATION, Columbus. Interment to be at Lakeview Cemetery in Manistique, Mich.

He was buried in July 2006 at Lakeview Cemetery, Manistique, Schoolcraft Co., MI, Findagrave #41134886.
