BENTON – Lola F. King, 81, of Benton, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. King; three daughters, Linda Anderson, of Valparaiso, Ind., Lola Lowe of North Jepson, Ind., and Nancy Burton of Murray; three sons, Mike King of North Jepson, Ind., Doug King of Valparaiso, Ind., and Dean King of Rhode Island; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ruth Pittman of Portage, Ind; and two brothers, Donnie Gilbert of New Mexico and Jimmy Gilbert of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Alsman; two grandsons; two brothers; and one sister. Her parents were Wallace Gilbert and Annie Cheek Gilbert.

No services are scheduled. Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Lulu Virginia Gilbert married Richard Harrison Adair, son of William Campbell Adair and Mary Fidelia Harrison, on 3 January 1905 at Wood Co., WV. Lulu Virginia Gilbert died in 1907.

     Rev. James Z. Gilbert was born on 1 June 1866 at N. Manchester, Wabash Co., IN.¹ He was the son of Israel Gilbert and Mary Horning.¹ Rev. James Z. Gilbert married Harriet Yoder, daughter of Stephen Yoder and Margaret Shoemaker, on 25 December 1895.¹

"Prof. Gilbert became most popular among the scientists of his State for his discovery of the tar pits, variously known as La Brea Rancho, La Brea Beds, The Death Trap, Fossil Gardens, etc., near Los Angeles. The depth of the deposit is at least twenty feet, packed almost solid with the bones of animals, which were trapped in the stiicky, tarry stuff and have been preserved for ages. Tons of bones have been removed to the Los Angeles Museum; bones of the mastodon, elephant, giant sloth, camel, llama, giant wolf, horse, lion, tiger, dog, and fox. The sabertooth tiger has been excavated in large numbers and still a wonderful store of bones await excavation.      Stella V. Gilbert was born on 22 May 1877 at N. Manchester, Wabash Co., IN.¹ She was the daughter of Israel Gilbert and Mary Horning.¹ Stella V. Gilbert married George Boone Kinzie, son of Joseph C. Kinzie and Hetty (?), in September 1903, Rev. J. H. Wright.¹

     Vernon Gilbert was born on 1 December 1902 at Idaho.¹ He was the son of William E. Gilbert and Mattie Crumpacker.¹

     Viola M. Gilbert was born on 27 August 1910. She married Deuard L. Francisco on 26 October 1929 at Williams Co., OH. Viola M. Gilbert died on 23 May 1971 at Grand Rapids, Kent, MI, at age 60. She was buried in May 1971 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Napoleon, Jackson Co., MI, Findagrave #144697949.
