Michael Grove

Michael Grove was also known as Michael Groff. He was born in 1750 at Holland (probably), Montgomery Co. (probably), PA. He was the son of Peter Grove. Michael Grove began military service Served under Capt. Campbell and Col. Hunter as a private in the Pennsylvania troops.
In the Revolution, served with his brother Peter under Gen. Sullivan and Capt. Sam Brady (of Muncy). He also served with Capt. Brady in the Indian Campaign. He died in 1827 at Union Co., PA. He was buried at Dreisbach Cemetery (south of Vicksburg), Buffalo Twp., Union Co., PA.

In the presence of the family and a large company of invited guests their daughter, Miss Pearl Grove, and Dr. Fletcher B. Forrest were united in marriage. The bridegroom’s brother, Rev. John Forrest, of Montoursville, officiated. Rev. Dr. Roth assisted. Miss Hazel Snyder, Hazleton, was bridesmaid; Granville Forrest, of Trenton, N.J., best man. A reception followed the ceremony.
Dr. Forrest is a practicing physician at Bellwood, Pa., and for a time was located in Chambersburg. He was originally from Adams county. His bride is the daughter of former County Commissioner and Mrs. Grove and is one of the well known and esteemed young ladies of town. Dr. and Mrs. Forest (sic) will reside at Bellwood.

Surviving are a daughter, Katherine Mathers, Altoona; two granddaughters. A daughter, Ann Burfeindt, died in 1956 (sic). She was the last of her immediate family.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Bellwood, and was active in civic affairs prior to her illness.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Bellwood, in charge of the Rev. Joseph G. Rigby. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
She was buried in September 1967 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA, Findagrave #176515932.

LEWISTOWN, Feb. 21 (INS) -- Two women were injured last night when an automobile and truck sideswiped west of Lewistown on Route 22.
Mrs. Katherine Mathers, 40, of Altoona, suffered a broken leg and possible internal injuries, while Mrs. Pearl Forrest, Bellwood, her mother, suffered body bruises.
State police said Mrs. Mathers was driving east when her vehicle and a truck collided. The truck driver, Charles L. Konwalski, 32, of Pittsburgh, escaped harm.

2 Blair County Women Hurt In Route 22 Crash
A Blair County mother and daughter are patients in the Lewistown Hospital today suffering from injuries sustained in an accident on Route 22, five miles east of Mount Union, last night at 7:10 o'clock.
The mother, Mrs. Pearl Forrest, 58, of 336 Main Street, Bellwood, is reported in satisfactory condition this forenoon. The daughter, Mrs. Katherine Mathers, 40, of 916 Twenty-sixth Avenue, Altoona, is in fair condition.
The women were traveling east in a 1949 Dodge sedan, operated by Mrs. Mathers. Charles L. Konwalski, Pittsburgh, was traveling west in a 1950 Ford truck attached to a Fruehauf trailer. As the vehicles passed on the highway, going in opposite directions a collision occurred. It is reported both operators shift responsibility for driving in the center of the highway.
Mrs. Mathers suffered a possible fracture of the left leg and possible abdominal injuries. Mrs. Forrest suffered contusions of the wrist, abrasions of both knees and lacerations of the ear.
State police of the Lewistown sub-station investigated the accident.
The pleasure car was practically demolished, while damage to the left side of the truck is said to be heavy.
