FORT WORTH -- Melvin R. Haas, Sr., 73, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, surrounded by his family.

Memorial service: noon Tuesday at University United Methodist Church, 2416 W. Berry St., Fort Worth. Burial: private. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Melvin was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Fort Worth. He was an active and lifelong resident of Fort Worth. He was co-owner of Skyline Industries, along with his two partners, Joe Cates and Jack Roach.

Melvin was an aviation enthusiast from childhood. He often went with his grandfather to local airfields just to watch the takeoffs and landings. It is no surprise that after his business was established in 1960, he became a private pilot and was thrilled to fly his family and friendds on vacations in the company plane.

Melvin served on many civic and charitable boards. Among those were chairman of the Air Power Council, president of the Aviation Heritage Association, founder and president for 13 years of the Fort Worth International Air show. This show, assisted by scores of volunteers, became one of the largest air shows in the United States.

He was chairman of the Astronaut Alan Bean Day Ticker Tape Parade and served as chairman of the Fort Worth Aviation Board and on the board of Colonial Country Club and he was a 25-year volunteer for the Colonial Golf Tournament.

In past years he served on the board and as a Sunday school teacher at University Methodist Church.

Melvin loved his family and friends and was never happier than when he was surrounded by them on holidays and special occasions.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors: Loving wife of over 50 years, Gwen; children, Debra Sutton and husband, Robert, Melvin Haas Jr. and wife, Laura and daughter Michelle Haas; grandchildren, Russell Sebastian and wife, Amber, Courtney Sebastian and Keith Sebastian and wife, Clarissa, Thomas Haas and Madelyn Haas; great-grandchildren, Jacob Beyer and Gibson Beyer; sisters, Myrle Knox and Mary Ann Sawvell; cousins, Don Jeter and wife, Jeannie and Ted Jeter; sisters-in-law Norma Brown and husband, Jerry and Linda Baumgardner, and numerous other dear nieces and nephews and extended-family members.

     Philip Haas was born in 1794 at Virginia. He was the son of Jacob Haas and Elizabeth Christina Sonner. Philip Haas died at Harrison Co., IN.

     Rebecca Haas was born on 13 July 1823 at Shenandoah Co. (probably), VA.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Jacob Haas and Catharine Pitman. Rebecca Haas married George Washington Davis, son of Robert Davis and Elizabeth Grant, on 8 March 1843 at Harrison Co., IN. Rebecca Haas died on 6 October 1863 at Harrison Co., IN, at age 40. She was buried in October 1863 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Harrison Co., IN.

     Regina Frances Haas was also known as "Fannie". She was born on 15 July 1857 at Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., VA.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Haas and Susannah Hottel.¹ Regina Frances Haas married Charles Wilbur Pittman, son of Andrew Pittman and Elizabeth Conrad, on 30 October 1878 at Harrison Co., IN, Nine children born, all living as of 1900 census. Regina Frances Haas lived in June 1900 at Nehawka, Cass Co., NE.² She died on 19 February 1941 at Grant Co., OK, at age 83. She was buried in February 1941 at Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, Grant Co., OK.

     Rosa M. Haas was born in December 1878 at Harrison Co., IN. She was the daughter of Joseph Lafayette Haas and Louisa (?)

     William Haas married Gilla A. Vernia. William Haas was born in June 1875 at Harrison Co., IN. He was the son of Joseph Lafayette Haas and Louisa (?) William Haas was buried in 1966 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Harrison Co., IN. He died in 1966 at Harrison Co., IN.

     William Haas was born on 28 June 1820 at Shenandoah Co. (probably), VA.¹ He was the son of Rev. Jacob Haas and Catharine Pitman. William Haas married Letitia Davis, daughter of James Davis and Sarah VanPelt, on 5 March 1848 at Harrison Co., IN. William Haas died on 14 February 1906 at Harrison Co., IN, at age 85.      Anna Catharina Haber was born on 3 March 1670 at Alteckendorf, Alsace. She was the daughter of Hans Haber and Anna (?) Leonard Haberer died on 23 December 2019 at Galesburg, Knox Co., IL, at age 74.

     Sarah Habermehl was born on 10 July 1792 at near Sharpsburg, Washington Co., MD. She married Jacob Kingery on 4 February 1822 at Washington Co., MD. Sarah Habermehl died on 27 October 1863 at Mt. Carroll Twp., Carroll Co., IL, at age 71.

     Barbara Habicht was born on 19 September 1930 at Berlin, Germany. She was the daughter of Dr. Jur. Hermann Rollomann Habicht and Helge Doflein. Barbara Habicht married Hans Gerhard Bayer. Barbara Habicht died on 2 January 2016 at age 85.
