Phylbert Elaine Johnson, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Sargent, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the South Lake Village in Lincoln. Phylbert was born Feb. 19, 1925, at Westerville to Albert and Ruby "Olive" (Ducker) Hallman.
Phylbert was preceded in death by her husband, Earl S. Johnson, in 1986.

Phylbert grew up in Ansley, where she graduated from high school in 1942. She attended Kearney State Teachers College for two years and received her teaching certificate, she also received her Bachelors Degree from The University of Nebraska at Kearney, in 1971. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Westerville, Oconto, Elsie and Sargent Public Schools in Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Earl S. Johnson on May 20, 1947, at Broken Bow. To this union four children were born, Barbara, Donald, David and Brenda. She made three major investments in life, the first being her faith in Jesus Christ which she expressed through her active involvement in the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Oconto and the United Methodist Church of Elsie and of Sargent. And in her later years, she became an active prayer warrior as she would intercede for her family, friends and nation. Her second major investment was her family, she dearly loved her husband, she spent hours investing herself in raising her children and attending their activities, she was proud of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved nothing more that being together with the extended Hallman and Johnson families. The other major investment in her life was her dedication to public education she fully enjoyed her camaraderie with her fellow teachers and strived to see her students learn.
Phylbert was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Larry and sisters, Shirley and Alberta.
Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sargent, NE.

Mr. Halterman formerly operated Novelty News on South Main Street in Harrisonburg and the R & H Grocery on North Main Street.
He moved to Verona in 1963, where he operated the Lee-Jackson Motel for 14 years and also was a sales representative for Crown Beauty Supply Co.
He was born May 24,1914 in Mathias, W. Va., and was a son of the late Charles M. and Susan Caldwell Halterman.
Mr. Halterman was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, where he had been president of the Friendship Sunday School Class and a deacon.
He was a graduate of Daleville Academy and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Harrisonburg in 1932.
His wife, the former Ruth Riggs, survives. Also surviving are a son, Titus Galen Halterman Jr. of Staunton; a daughter, Sharyn Bowman of Bethel, Pa; a sister, Sadie Moyer of Mathias; two brothers, Cletus G. Halterman of Mathias and Elwood D. Halterman of Rt, 8, Harrisonburg, and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Michael Hostetter and Dr. Robert L. Sherfy.
Private burial will be held earlier in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Church of the Brethren.
The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where friends may call.
