The funeral for Alva Lee Hamric, 73, of Tanner will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Westmeade Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Scotty Hogan officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hamric died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1934, in West Virginia to Alvie Hamric and Vergie Price Hamric.
A veteran of the Army, he retired from Calhoun Community College after 30 years of service as plant manager, where he also taught refrigeration and air conditioning. He owned H and S Nursery for 10 years. He was a member of Limestone Bee Association and the Masons.
His son, Jerry Hamric, preceded him in death.
Alva was a kind, generous and loving person who loved his wife and family, nature and animals. He was an inspiration and mentor to his children and grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie June Hamric; son, Jimmy Hamric of Decatur; daughter, Charlotte Lynn of Miami, Fla; daughter-in-law, Deb Hamric of Decatur; sister, Eloise Burgess and husband Gene, of Spencer, W. Va; grandsons, Blake Hamric of Decatur and Ryan Lynn of Miami, Fla; and extended family, Faye Terry and Gary, Janice and Hannah Braudaway, all of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Jerry King, Lionel Evans, Al Griffin, Mike Blizzard, Earl Gilbert and Whitt Mooney.

Armed with degrees in business management and marketing, he was awarded a distinguished membership of Who's Who Worldwide in 1994-95. Prior to his purchase of the ReMax franchise, he also experienced success working for The Decatur Daily, Saginaw and Real Estate Plus.
As a philanthropist, Jerry was a sponsor of Alabama Jubilee and a major contributor to the Decatur Library, Dixie Youth Baseball and Austin High School athletics. He was a very generous man who donated so much time and funding to charities. His legacy is the knowledge and work atmosphere he provided at ReMax Decatur, allowing individual careers to flourish. He never lost sight of the ideal that a Realtor's first goal is to protect the public trust.
