This unusual name is only found for one individual in the 1940 census, that being the son of Frank and Tressa (Windle) Harding, who was clearly born about 1925. I presume the SSDI listing is for this individual, and there was some error regarding the date of birth. DLB 2012. Derwood Harding was born circa 1925 at Macon Co., MO.1 He was the son of Frank E. VETERAN COAL MINE OPERATOR DIES IN HOME

Enos Harding, Mine Manager for Patterson-Harding Coal Co., Succumbs

Enos Harding, 75, a coal mine operator in this vicinity for 45 years, died of pneumonia at 3:50 o'clock this morning in his home at 408 Portland Avenue.

Mr. Harding caught a cold six weeks ago which developed into malaria and finally into pneumonia.

Until his illness, he had been mine manager for the Patterson-Harding mine, now owned by the Stiehl brothers.

Mr. Harding and his wife, the former Miss Annie Beaumont, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 8. The couple had eleven children, including triplets, and seven survive. The triples were the last three children born and they died before they were two months of age.

CAME HERE WHEN 21 YEARS OLD

Mr. Harding came from England to this country when he was 21 years of age, following the death of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harding. He took up residence with an uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Harding of East St. Louis and while residing there became interested in coal operating. William Harding was an enterprising coal operator in the old days in East St. Louis. His sons were real estate operators in that city.

The deceased was born in Paulton, Sommersetshire, England on December 14. He married Miss Beaumont on May 8, 1886, in the parsonage of the First Methodist Episcopal Church here, the ceremony being read by the Rev. David, then pastor. She survives.

The living children are: Mrs. Naomi Everett, wife of Carl Everett of Denver, Colo; Joseph Harding, 3440 Belt Avenue, St. Louis; Mrs. Salina Littrell, wife of Harry Littrell of Shiloh Valley; Mrs. Pearl Gerber, wife of Joseph Gerber, 706 East D Street, Belleville; Mrs. Olive Bub, wife of Elmer Bub, Sherwood Forest; Mrs. Ruth Wagner, wife of Ervin Wagner, Washington D. C; and Mrs. Corrine Williams, wife of Lloyd Williams, Lebanon, Ill.

Mr. Harding also has seventeen grandchildren, only one, Gladys Harding, the second oldest grandchild, having died. Gladys was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harding and met death by falling from a porch thirteen years ago.

The other grandchildren are: Charles Simmons, the oldest grandchild, 27 years of age of Denver, Colo., being the son of Mrs. Naomi Everett, who together with his mother, has already arrived for the funeral; Lloyd Littrell, at home; Mrs. Ruth Moore, wife of Wilson Moore of the Smithton Road and Margaret, Harry Robert, Enos, Elmer, Louise and Julia Littrell, at home, all children of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Littrell of Shiloh Valley; Edith, Joseph and Mildred, at home, all children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gerber of Belleville; Rodney Bub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bub of Sherwood Forest; Ervin and Warren Wagner, children of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Wagner of Washington, D. C. and Ivan Lee Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Williams of Lebanon.

There is also a great-grandchild, Billy Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Moore of the Smithon Road.

MEMBER OF M. E. CHURCH

Mr. Harding was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church.

The body will be taken from the Gundlach and Company Funeral Home at 5 o'clock this afternoon to the residence, where it will remain until 11 o'clock Wednesday morning when it will be returned to the Gundlach Chapel. Services will be held there at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Rev. W. I. Terhune, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, here and Rev. Mayhew of Greenville, a personal friend of Mr. Harding, will officiate. The cemetery has not been selected.
