     Lewis William Harper was born on 17 November 1878 at Milan, Sumner Co., KS.¹ He was the son of Miller Harper and Caroline May Thornburg.¹ Lewis William Harper married Alice Celeste Windell, daughter of Anthony Windell and Emily Celeste Sieg, on 15 June 1902 at Bluff Twp., Sumner Co., KS, no children. Lewis William Harper died on 8 September 1979 at Summer Springs, Sumner Co., KS, at age 100. He was buried in September 1979 at Argonia Cemetery, Argonia, Sumner Co., KS.

     Loren Lemont Harper was born on 9 May 1891 at Ohio.¹ He married Goldia Marie Sesslar on 24 February 1916 at Greene Co., OH. Loren Lemont Harper lived on 30 January 1920 at Jasper Twp., Fayette Co., OH, farming.¹ He died on 14 October 1929 at Fayette Co., OH, at age 38. He was buried in October 1929 at Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery, Milledgeville, Fayette Co., OH, Findagrave #46202206.

     Marguerite M. Harper was born circa May 1925 at Braxton Co., WV.¹ She was the daughter of Willis Guy Harper and Esta Adaline Gregory.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Harper married Hiram H. Brumfield, son of Jesse Brumfield and Sarah Davis, on 14 August 1853 at Fairfield Co., OH.

     Miller Harper was born in July 1848 at Ohio.¹ He married Caroline May Thornburg circa 1872.¹ Miller Harper died in 1936.

     Miller Arthur Harper was born on 25 April 1910 at Milan, Sumner Co., KS.¹ He was the son of Chester Arthur Harper and Ida May Windell.¹ Miller Arthur Harper married Fern L. (?) before April 1940.² Miller Arthur Harper lived in April 1940 at Dixon Twp., Sumner Co., KS.² He died on 15 May 1987 at Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS, at age 77. He was buried in May 1987 at Argonia Cemetery, Argonia, Sumner Co., KS.

     Personta Harper was born circa 1865 at Indiana.¹ She was the daughter of Charles S. Harper and Mary Jane Bush.¹

     Rebecca Harper was born circa 1810 at North Carolina.¹ She married James Wellborn Scott.¹

     Robert A. Harper was born circa 1861 at Indiana.¹ He was the son of Charles S. Harper and Mary Jane Bush.¹

     Robert Edward Harper was born on 15 December 1927 at Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Co., SD. He was the son of Edward Stanley Harper and Mary Ellen Kathleen DeWald.

     Shirley Jean Harper was born on 12 October 1928 at Wendell, Gooding Co., ID. She married Clifford Henry Masingill, son of Tollie Lee Masingill and Nettie Mildred Bradley, on 27 December 1948 at Payette, Payette Co., ID. Shirley Jean Harper Masingill passed away Feb. 7, 2014 in Payette. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11th at First United Methodist Church, 502 N. 11th St., Payette. Condolences may be made to Shirley's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.

Shirley was born in Wendell, ID on Oct. 12, 1928 to H.S. Harper and Margaret Graves Harper who lived in Jerome, ID. At age four, the family moved to Caruthersville, MO for three years. In 1935, the family moved to Payette, ID, where Shirley attended Westside Grade School and Payette High School where she graduated in 1946 as Class Salutatorian. She played in the band and attended the University of Idaho for two years where she pledged Delta Gamma Sorority. She married Clifford Masingill in Payette on Dec. 27, 1948. They lived in Victorville, CA for 10 months while Cliff was in the Air National Guard and she spent the rest of her life in Payette.

She was baptized and active in the United Methodist Church her entire life. Shirley was also very active in Jayceettes, Newcomers Club, PHS Endowment, City Planning and Zoning, and building of the Payette Public Pool and Killebrew Field. Shirley liked to golf, play and teach bridge, and keep score at kids sporting events.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 65 years, Cliff; her children, Scott Masingill (Laurie), Claire Ames (Tom), and Kay Pittman (Phil); sister, Dorothy Hoffman; grandchildren, Toby Ames (Cary), Sam Ames, Libby Walters (Dan), Ryan Masingill (Jen), Jeff Masingill, Ross Pittman, Megan Bourner (Tim), Mitch Pittman (Jody), Anna Bodas (Seth), Cameron Frey, Michelle Frey, and Michael Frey; great grandchildren, Abby Ames, Madelyn Ames, Isabelle Ames, Ella Walters, Cole Walters, Cydney Ames, Teige Ames and Anessa Bourner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great grandson, Bradley Mitchel Pittman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Payette First United Methodist Church, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.

     William P. Harper was born circa 1859 at Indiana.¹ He was the son of Charles S. Harper and Mary Jane Bush.¹

     Willis Guy Harper was born on 24 November 1889 at Braxton Co., WV.¹ He was the son of Jeremiah M. Harper and Minerva Jane Mollohan.¹ Willis Guy Harper married Esta Adaline Gregory, daughter of Albert Jenkins Gregory and Harriet McCartney, on 7 June 1913 at Braxton Co., WV. Willis Guy Harper died on 29 September 1968 at Lewis Co., WV, at age 78 Dates per SSDI, last residence Weston.

     Catherine Harpole was born in 1773. She married Anthony Hutsinpiller, son of Jacob Hotsinpiller and Maria Elisabetha Huber, in 1791. Catherine Harpole died in 1846 at Greenbrier Co., VA (now WV).

Wednesday at about twelve o'clock at the M. E. parsonage occured the marriage of Mr. Chas. H. Harpole to Miss Emma DeVault.
The ceremony was preform by Rev. E. L. Torrence in the presence of a few friends.
This estimable couple have lived to long and played to important a part in Bayard's social and business world to need an introduction from us.
Immediately after the service the couple left for Denver where they will spend a few day before returning to take up their residence in Mr. Harpole's beautiful home.
The Transcript takes more than ordinary pleasure in wishing a happy and prosperous married life.

C. H. HARPOLE PASSES AWAY EARLY TODAY

Funeral Services To Be Held At Federated Church On Sunday Afternoon

Charles Henry Harpole was born in Boonville, Indiana December 15, 1863. He passed away at his home in Bayard early Thursday morning December 11.
Mr. Harpole moved with his parents from Boonville, Indiana to Independence, Kansas at the age of 16 years, where they resided a short time, then moving to Southwestern Missouri where he remained with his parents until he was of age, helping his father develop a new farm. He came to Nebraska at the age of 26 years and has been a continual resident of this state since, having lived at Naponee, Holdrege, Ravenna, Alliance and Brideport prior to his coming to Bayard in 1900. Being one of the earliest residents of Bayard and having initiative and marked gift for getting things organized he set up in business and became an outstanding individual in the community and church life. His activities included leadership in the town board, school board, Red Cross, grand jury service, cemetery association in its initial plotting, and development through the years. From his early membership in the Methodist church in 1911 he served actively, until failing health, on the trustee board, where he remained as a senior member until his death.
He was a man of strong convictions and steadfast faith in the right, even when the right seemed unpopular. He was one of those pioneer men who was sturdy in character and stalwart and upright in his business dealings with his fellowmen. They knew where he stood and what he stood for.
For several years Mr. Harpole had been in failing health and the last year was spent more or less in bed. His good wife cared for him painstakingly and prolonged his life in peace and patience.
His father and mother had long since passed on. He had four brothers and four sisters all of whom have passed on save only Morris Harpole, a brother living in Opolis, Kansas. Mr. Charles Harpole had married Elnette Mingus in 1893, she having passed away in 1914. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Devault in 1915 and she survives him with a son, George, living in Bayard. A foster son whom Mr. Harpole had taken at five years of age to raise, Montgomery Fullerton, also survives, besides other relatives and many friends.
His dying prayer was God's protection upon his family who survive.
The body will lie in state at the home Sunday morning from 10:00 a. m. until the service at the Federated church at 2:00 p. m. The body will not be reviewed at the church services.


OBITUARY #2

Relatives and friends at this place will regret to hear of the death of Charles Harpole, of Bayard, Nebraska, on December 11th, at his home in that city after an illness of some months. Mr. Harpole has visited with his wife, some years ago, with New Florence relatives, and was a very fine gentleman. Mrs. Harpole, before her marriage, was Miss Emma Davault, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davault of this place and grew to young womanhood in New Florence. Funeral services were held at the Bayard Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, burial at that place.

     Note: George Royce Harpole was adopted by Charles Henry Harpole and Emma Isabelle Davault as a baby in Kansas City, Missouri. The name listed on his birth certificate is Royce Hudson. He never tried to locate his birth parents. He said, "having one set of parents was enough." Charles Henry Harpole would have been in his 50's and Emma would have been in her 40's when they adopted George. (Information provided by his son, George Charles Harpole.)

George Royce Harpole was born on 24 October 1917 at Kansas City, Clay Co., MO. He was the son of Charles Henry Harpole and Emma Isabelle DeVault. George Royce Harpole married Meryle Maxine Keep, daughter of Lloyd Keep and Elva Story, on 11 June 1939 at Bayard, Morrill Co., NE, BAYARD COUPLE IS MARRIED SUNDAY

Miss Meryle Keep and George Harpole, both of Bayard, were married at three o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Federated church in Bayard, with Rev. A. W. Johnston officiating. Relatives and close friends of the couple were present.

Attendants were Miss Helen Harpole of Scottsbluff and Bill Heyle of Bayard.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Keep of Bayard. She was graduated from highschool in 1938 and has been recently employed by the Hested store. She formerly worked the the telephone office. Mr. Harpole, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harpole, was a member of the 1937 graduating class in Bayard, and has been associated with the Searle and Chaplin Lumber company for the past two years.

They will make their home in an apartment in the Harpole residence in Bayard.

Occupation: Bookkeeper. George Royce Harpole died on 22 September 1992 at Scottsbluff, Scotts Bluff Co., NE, at age 74. He was buried in September 1992 at Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Morrill Co., NE.

     William Harpole married Eliza Ritchie.

     Susan Harpster was born on 12 December 1850. She married William A. Jennings on 10 September 1868.

     Abraham Sorver Harr was born on 31 October 1856. He married Annie Detwiler on 27 November 1879 at Franconia Twp., Montgomery Co., PA.¹ Abraham Sorver Harr died on 6 November 1940 at age 84. He was buried in November 1940 at Christ Reformed Church of Indian Creek Cemetery, Telford, Montgomery Co., PA, Findagrave #112325292.

     David Harr married Elizabeth Sorver.¹

     Henry S. Harr was the son of David Harr and Elizabeth Sorver.¹ Henry S. Harr married Sarah Price, daughter of Rev. Henry A. Price and Sophia Swartley, on 20 November 1875, No children.¹

     John Harr married Susanna Snapp, daughter of Lorentz Schnepp and Margaretha Stephan, on 13 May 1782 at Shenandoah Co., VA, Ceremony by Rev. Simon Harr.
