Hastings resident, Calvin Maurice Hartwig, 86, passed away Sunday June 6, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Maurice was born November 24, 1923 to Calvin Homer and Lulu "Gertrude" (Hoppe) Hartwig in Kenesaw, NE.

Maurice graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from December 11, 1942 to December 10, 1945. He married Wilma Sherman on August 27, 1949; she passed away August 22, 2003. He attended the Kansas City College of Mortuary in 1951 in Kansas City, MO. He had lived in the Hastings community since 1954, coming from North Platte; NE. Maurice worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company for over 30 years.

Maurice was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #268 in Kenesaw, NE and a member of the Southern Hills Golf Club, south of Hastings, NE. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and eating at the OK Café in Hastings, NE.

Maurice is survived by: daughter, Lynne Crowe and husband Mel and son, Calvin "Thomas" Hartwig and wife Lori all of Hastings, NE. grandchildren, Kate, Cassie, and Brody Crowe, and Phillip, Travis, Justin and Kristina Hartwig.

Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, his parents, and sisters, Doris Sahling and Janette Strong.

He was buried in June 2010 at Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw, Adams Co., NE, Findagrave #53378424.

Mrs. Maker was born Nov. 28, 1883 to Mr. and Mrs. John Hartzog. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957 and by a daughter, Edna Mae Lieurance, in 1974.
