Obituary of Benjamin Hawley
The subject of this sketch was born in Columbian county, Ohio, October, 1822 and died January 30, 1901. He was married in 1849 to Miss Elizabeth Hester in Columbian county and moved to Illinois and from thence to Iowa. During the year 1883 he moved to Kansas, since which time he has been a resident of Smith county.
He leaves an ever faithful wife and four children to mourn the sad and irreparable loss. The oldest son lives in Dubuque, Iowa, one sister and two brothers in Ohio, and three children in Smith County.
The funeral services were held at the Munsinger school house, at one o'clock p.m., last Friday, conducted by Rev. M. E. Groves, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery. The body was followed to its eternal resting place by a number of friends and neighbors.
May the sorrowing ones be comforted as He alone comforteth, and live so that they all may meet him in the blessed haven of rest to which he has gone.
He was buried on 1 February 1901 at Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, Smith Co., KS, Findagrave #127830226.

Obituary of Benjamin Hawley

Mrs. Hardin, 64, wife of William Lawrence Hardin, died Wednesday at a Charleston hospital.
Born in Walterboro, she was a daughter of Samuel N. and Kathleen Reeves Haws. She was an administrative assistant at Baptist College, Charleston.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Lawrence G. Hardin of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas W. Harwood of Florence and Mrs. W. N. McDowell Jr. of Columbia; three sisters, Mrs. W. Perry Murphy, Mrs. Ted C. Hodges and Mrs. Mary C. Stone of Walterboro, and two granddaughters.

Reports are that Mr. Haws, who is about 80 years of age, died suddenly of heart failure about 11 o'clock yesterday morning.
He was former president of the old Interstate Trust and Savings Bank, now the Farmers and Merchants Bank here. His son, S. N. Haws, now in New York City, is also prominently connected in Kingsport.
Funeral and interment will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock according to the report from Jonesboro, the undertaking establishment there having the body in charge. Arrangements are pending, awaiting word from S. N. Haws. Interment will take place at Jonesboro.
-Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by a brother, Tom Haws, of Horse Creek Road and many other relatives in this section.

WALTERBORO - Elizabeth Haws Murphy, 95, a retired school teacher, died Thursday at the Colleton Place.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Graveside in Live Oak Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Lee Cothran and directed by THE FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Murphy was born March 29, 1905 in Bristol, TN, a daughter of the late Samuel Nathan Haws and Kathleen Reeves Haws. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the D.A.R. She was a graduate of Cornell University. She was the the widow of William Perry Murphy.
Surviving are: 3 nieces, Carol R. Simmons of Walterboro, Kathleen Harwood of Ridgeway and Helen McDowell of Irmo and a nephew, Lawrence G. Hardin of Columbia.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United methodist Church, P.O. Box407, Walterboro, SC 29488.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at the residence of Carol Simmons, 3 Dogwood Lane, Walterboro, SC. She was buried in October 2000 at Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, Colleton Co., SC, Findagrave #35600823.
