A former Pittsburg County resident, Raymond A. Head, 56, died Tuesday at Barstow, Calif. He is being returned to McAlester for funeral services scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday in Mills-Humphrey Funeral Chapel. Minister Don Hicks will officiate at the services. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Mills-Humphrey Funeral Home. Head was a retired civil service worker at Edwards Air Force Base, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was born in Stuart Sept. 17, 1911 and lived in this area until moving to California in the 1930s. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife Elsie, of the home: four sisters, Mrs. R. L. Brewster of Shawnee, Mrs. Bud Davis, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Cecil Choate of Tulsa, and Mrs. Dock Kiser of Nocoma Park; and a brother, Lee Head of Choctaw.

Chris was the son of Bonnie Headington. He graduated from Stanford and was studying for his foreign diplomacy exam when he died from a heart defect. He was survived by his wife, Martha Longshore, his mother and his sister, Tai Headington. There is a monument for him in the Lexington Cemetery (Ky).

Jerome Willard Headington began military service on 7 January 1944 WW II service, U.S. Army, enlisted, discharged 11 NOV 1945, per BIRLS record. An Army enlistment record exists that shows enlistment on 17 DEC 1943 -- it states his marital status was "Separated, with dependents". He died on 19 September 2001 at Sacramento Co., CA, at age 88.

Alice L. Heagler Dies On a Train Near Needles, Cal.

Harry Heagler, of Cooksville, received word Friday evening of the death of his sister, Alice L. Heagler, dissolution occurring on a train near The Needles, Cal., as she was returning from Los Angeles, where she had spent the winter. Miss Heagler had been in failing health for two years and had rapidly became (sic) worse the past month, so was returning home on the advice of her physician.

She was born in Martin Township south of Colfax on Oct. 25, 1863, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Heagler, deceased. Since 1900 she has lived in Chicago until about four years ago, and has spent the winters in California. She is survived by three brothers, Harry and Ed of Cooksville and Frank of Colfax. The funeral announcemnent will be made later.
