Mansfield - Eileen Mae Gruneisen passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at Country Meadow Care Center at the age of 100.
She was born June 5, 1921 in Mansfield to M. Ann and Clarence Heimberger. She moved to Indiana as a young child and graduated from Hammond High School. She continued her education at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. During these years she was raised by her loving step-father, Millard F. Akers.
She moved back to Mansfield where she married Bruce Gruneisen, May 2, 1942. While he served in the Navy during WW II she worked at Westinghouse. Her job was to buck rivets on wing flaps for airplanes.
After the war they moved to Mansfield Washington Road where they raised their family. They had gardens and Eileen canned fruits and vegetables. She loved cooking and baking and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, and knitting.
She was a charter member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for many years. During much of that time she also taught the beginner Sunday School class. Later in life she began teaching piano and for many years gave lessons to area children and even a few adults. This gave her great joy. She taught till failing health in her early 90's forced her to stop.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Bruce on December 31, 2011. She was also preceded by brothers Lawrence, Leon, and Dale Heimberger and Millard F. Akers, Jr.
She is survived by her children Phyllis (James) Smith, Joan (Randall) Kuhn, John (Susan) Gruneisen, and V. Ann (John) Diamond; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers David and Rolland Heimberger.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff members at Country Meadow for their excellent and compassionate care. Southern Care Hospice also gave her wonderful care and always treated her with kindness and respect.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 3, 2021 from 12 pm- 1 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the service honoring Eileen Mae Gruneisen will follow at 1 pm. Pastor Randy Raynes will officiate and burial will follow in Caesarea Cemetery.
She was buried at Caesarea Cemetery, Mansfield, Richland Co., OH, Findagrave #235403157.
