Rev. E. R. Appenzeller, Former Daytonian, Dies

Rev. Edgar R. Appenzeller, formerly of Dayton, died at his residence in Philadelphia Sunday morning. A native of Pennsylvania, he was graduated from Urainus college in that state, served as assistant pastor of the Fourth Reformed church of Dayton thirty-five years ago, was ordained pastor here and will be brought here for burial. He had been in retirement, due to ill health, for several years. He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn and Catherine. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bradford and Routsong Oakwood funeral chapel, Brown street and Irving avenue. Burial will be in Zion cemetery, Cincinnati pike and Lamme road.

COOK, Mary Marie age 84 of Centerville, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Dayton under the care of Crossroads Hospice. Mary was born April 13, 1924 in Lytle, OH to the late George and Edith May (Marquettte) Apple. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband Theodore Cook in 2003, as well as two brothers and a sister. Mary leaves her Son Ronald G. (Claudia) Cook of Waynesville and her daughter, Sandra J. (Michael) Kramer of Miamisburg. As a homemaker, Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She had a great love for animals and cared for her cat Mimi as an adopted daughter. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Entombment will take place at Miami Valley Memory Garden mausoleum. APPLE, Robert Lee age 88, of Upper Arlington, passed away Monday, February 16, 2009 at Arlington Court Nursing Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 9, 1920 in Bradford, Ohio to Perry F. and Maude (Olinger) Apple. He graduated from Miami Jacobs School of Business. Robert had a long career with Winters National Bank in Dayton retiring as Vice-President of Real Estate. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Coast Guard as a Yeoman First Class. While in Dayton, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church. Robert was also a longtime member of Kiwanis in Dayton. In 1991, he and Virginia moved to Columbus where they were active at Northwest United Methodist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Virginia E. Apple in 2000; infant twin granddaughters and two sisters, Dorothy Apple and Leona Hile. Robert is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cynthia Apple, Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Allan Caldemeyer, of Grand Rapids, MI; longtime companion, Nancy Collins, of Columbus; grandchildren, Courtney (William) Noble, Benjamin (Kristin) Apple, Matthew and Amanda Caldemeyer; step grandchildren, Shane and Jason Eisenhauer; great grandsons, Vincent and Colin Noble and niece, Sandy Moriarity.
