JOHNSON--"Ike" Johnson Is Killed In Rail Accident
Isaac Raymond "Ike" Johnson, 58, well-known Columbus resident and Union Pacific Railroad employee, was instantly killed at 4:24 p.m. Friday, when his track motorcar was struck by a mail train one and one-half miles east of Schuyler. Mr. Johnson was headed east when hit by Train No. 6.
He was born July 28, 1888, at Fontenelle, Nebr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Johnson, and lived there until coming to Columbus. At the age of 21 he began work for the Union Pacific railroad and was employed at Ames and Fremont until transferring to Columbus in about 1910, and had since resided here.

In Columbus, Mr. Johnson was first in charge of the U.P. Battery station and then was made assistant signal supervisor. The latter position he held until about one year ago when he became signal maintenance man.

On Dec. 19, 1914, Mr. Johnson married E. Bea Williams who survives him.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Lebanon Lodge No. 323 A.F. & A.M., and a past master; was a member of Harmony Chapter No. 13, O.E.S., and a past patron; and a former member of the Columbus fire department.

Besides his wife, Mr. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Peterson of Columbus and Mrs. Alvin Blumhart of Sacramento, Calif; one son, Donald Johnson of Laramie, Wyo; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Lee Johnson of Fremont; two sisters, Mrs. James Callahan of Fremont and Mrs. Walter Ebsen of Laramie, Wyo; and five brothers, Albert L. Johnson of Aurora, Pick of Grand Island, John of Laramie, Wyo., William of Los Angeles, Calif., and Edward of Fremont.
The body is at the Gass funeral home and funeral arrangements are pending.

JOHNSON--Johnson Service - Funeral services for Isaac Raymond "Ike" Johnson, 58, well-known Columbus resident who was killed Friday afternoon when his track motorcar was struck by a mail train, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuseday at the Methodist church with Rev. Walter Jackson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery. The body is lying in state at the Gass funeral home from 11 a.m. today until 4:30 p.m. when it will be taken to the family home to be until the hour of the service. Masons and Eastern Star will attend the funeral in a body.

Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 8, 1910 at Plainview, attended Pierce County Schools and farmed in that county until moving to Columbus in 1957. Here he was a member of United Methodist Church and Keystone Club.

On Dec. 1, 1934 he married Blanche Ligenfelter in Madison County, and she survives. Also surviving are one son and three daughters, Dwight and Julie of Lincoln, Cheryl of Mountain View, Calif., Mrs. Glenn (Carolyn) Hanke of Omaha; six grandchildren; one brother, Lehr Johnson of Plainview; two sisters, Mrs. Mardelle Hess of Rosanky, Tex., and Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Murray of Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Magdalena Vossberg Johnson, and a grandson, Scotty, age 5.

Jan was born in Moline, Ill. on June 19, 1937, to Carl and Margaret (Versluis) Johnson. She attended and graduated from Moline High School, Class of 1955. Jan was united in marriage to John in Moline on June 13, 1959, before moving to Bennett, where they spent many years before moving to Tipton in 1973. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Sheri and Julie.

Earlier years of Jan’s were spent being a homemaker, mother and farmwife until her later years of employment with Wal-Mart, most of which were spent at the Tipton store. Taking vacations with John and dancing were a couple of things Jan cherished most, until she became a grandma. Undoubtedly, there were her pride and joy.

Jan was a past member of St. Mary’s Guild and a current member of st. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Jan is survived by her husband, John Powell; daughters Sheri Huprich of West Point and Julie Powell of Tipton; sisters, carol Johnson, Bonnie Bradford and Marcia Grchan, all of Moline; brothers, Robert Johnson of Moline and Craig (Adonna) Johnson of Arizona; grandchildren, Chris (Amber) Cantonwine, Angie (John) Charbonneau, Ryan (Cindy Johnson) Cantonwine and Jared Huprich; six great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Walter Huprich; nephew; two brothers-in-law; several aunts and uncles; and mother- and father-in-law.

She was buried in May 2016 at Calvary Cemetery, West Point, Lee Co., IA, Findagrave #162086315.

She then returned to Wausa where she was a telephone operator for four years. When she was not busy at work, she embroidered tea towels and had 48 sets when she married Warren G. Lingenfelter of Plainview, NE. They married December 11, 1949, and had over 62 years of marriage at his passing in 2012.

Janis and Warren had four children, Kim, the oldest son, died in an accident November 1986. Lyle continues to farm on the family homestead. Jane is a retired RN and lives in San Antonio, TX. Ron manages Norfolk Transmission and Muffler that was started by his brother Kim in 1973.

Along with becoming a busy farmer's wife, Janis acquired many skills. Amongst them raising, butchering, and selling hundred of chickens, and picking and selling endless bushels of sweet corn. Over the years she gained a reputation as a very skilled poet. She started writing poetry at the age of 8 with some of those shared in a book she began. She has written countless number of poems for family, friends, and acquaintances that her children enjoyed reading to her in her final days. Janis was also a prolific knitter, crocheter, crafter, and quilter. Her many talents were endless. She continued her knitting and crocheting up until the last couple of weeks of her death at the Plainview Manor and Whispering Pines Assisted Living. Janis was a member of the Klick and Klatter Club, Plainview Punsters, a local clown group, Tops of Brunswick, Plainview Woman's Club, Spindrift Poetry of Norfolk, the Nebraska Chaparral Poets, and was a member of Eastern Star and was recognized as a 75-year member in 2020.

Janis was preceded in death by her son Kim (survived by wife Deb of Omaha, NE) and husband Warren. She is survived by her three children Lyle and wife Dianne of Plainview, NE, Jane and husband John Shafer of San Antonio, TX, and Ron and wife Bette of Norfolk, NE. She was also survived by 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was buried in August 2021 at Plainview Cemetery, Plainview, Pierce Co., NE, Findagrave #230812950.

     Jemima Johnson was born on 14 July 1836. She married Ephraim Leslie Hanlin on 24 June 1858. Jemima Johnson died on 25 December 1923 at age 87. She was buried in December 1923 at Antioch Cemetery, Frankfort, Marshall Co., KS, Findagrave #99595781.
