She was buried in July 1867 at Keefauver Cemetery, Washington Co., TN, Findagrave #102370340.

     George Lynch Keefauver was born on 25 September 1835 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Nicholas Keefhaver Jr. and Nancy Dicey Bacon. George Lynch Keefauver married Lydia Ann Bacon, daughter of Jonathan Bacon and Deborah Barron, in 1858. George Lynch Keefauver died on 19 December 1917 at Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN, at age 82.

     George W. Keefauver was born in May 1895 at Washington Co. (probably), TN.¹ He was the son of Nicholas E. Keefauver and Virginia A. Morrell. George W. Keefauver married Amey Lee. George W. Keefauver died in 1975.

     John Keefauver was born on 1 December 1824 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Henry Keefhaver and Elizabeth Galloway.¹ John Keefauver married Julia Hare, daughter of Henry Haire and Elizabeth Taylor, on 27 September 1847 at Washington Co., TN. John Keefauver died on 2 February 1894 at Platte or Lawrence Co., MO, at age 69 per headstone. Other sources give an 1893 date. He was buried at Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown, Lawrence Co., MO, Findagrave #67744135.

     John Breckenridge Keefauver was born on 23 March 1870 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of William Shelton Keefauver and Edna Evelyn Hunt. John Breckenridge Keefauver married Carrie Lou Stafford, daughter of Julius A. Stafford and Amanda E. Grisham, on 3 May 1896. John Breckenridge Keefauver lived on 11 June 1900 at Civil District 12, Washington Co., TN, farming on the Stafford farm.¹ He died on 27 June 1940 at Washington Co., TN, at age 70. He was buried in 1940 at Highland Church of Christ Cemetery, Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN.

     Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Jr. was born on 15 November 1908 at Boone's Creek, Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Sr. and Lucemy Belle Hylton.¹ Occupation: Cattleman and co-owner (with brother Jack) in the nationally known Keefauver Brothers Angus business.

Joseph D. Keefauver

JOHNSON CITY -- Joseph D. Keefauver, 94, Appalachian Christian Village, 2022 Sherwood Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Keefauver was a Washington County native and a son of the late Joseph D. and Belle Hylton Keefauver. He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and chairman of the board. Mr. Keefauver was a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a graduate and valedictorian of Boones Creek High School and a graduate of Milligan College. Mr. Keefauver was a founder and on the board of directors of Emmanuel School of Religion. He was manager of Hardwick Farms, Cleveland, Tenn. He later started the Keefauver Brothers Farm. Mr. Keefauver was elected to the board of directors of the American Angus Association. He served two terms as a director and became vice president in 1959. He became president of the association in 1960. He was a speaker at an Angus conference in Argentina and judged all major Angus shows in the United States. Mr. Keefauver was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby H. Keefauver, in 2001. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph D. Keefauver, Appalachian Christian Village, 2022 Sherwood Drive, who died Sunday, will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at 11 a.m. from Boones Creek Christian Church with Mr. Dan Lawson, Minister David Clark and Minister Robert Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles “Smokey” Crouch, great-nephews and great-great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday from Boones Creek Christian Church. Additional survivors include special friends, Bill McSpadden, Chilhowie, Va., and T.J. and June Cawood, Cleveland, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boones Creek Christian Church Building Fund, 312 Christian Church Road, Gray, TN 37615.

Jonesboro Men Buy Ridgefields Farm's Registered Aberdeen - Angus Cattle Herd

The entire herd of registered Aberdeen-Angus cattle, consisting of over 100 head, has been sold by C. P. Edwards, Jr. owner of Ridgefields Farm of Kingsport, for an undisclosed amount to Keefauver Brothers of Jonesboro, according to an announcement yesterday.

The sale is reported to be one of the largest transactions of pure bred beef cattle made in this section for some time. The reason for the sale was the fact that several hundred acres of Ridgefields Farm are now being divided into a real estate development, golf course and country club. The herd will remain at Ridgefields Farm probably until next spring.
Started in 1942

This herd was started in 1942 and represents some of the best cattle selected from the leading Angus breeders, such as Hardwicks Farm, Tolan, French Broad Farms, Macmor Farms, and other leading farms. Whenever the Ridgefields Farm cattle have been offered for sale, they consistently sold with the top cattle, and when shown, they have won many blue ribbons.
The Keefauver Brothers Farm, owned by Joe and Jack Keefauver, is located in the Boone's Creek community. Their herd of Angus is well known throughout the Southeast, having been founded from the top animals from Hardwicks Farm. They had the Supreme Champion Female at the Southeastern Sale and just recently had the Grand Champion Female at the Southeastern World's Fair. They have also recently sold cattle into the states of Georgia, Michigan, Montana and Tennessee.
Leading Herds

They have several sons and daughters of the last year's International Grand Champion Eileenmere 500 and with the addition of the leading Ridgefields Farm cattle, it will give them one of the leading herds of Aberdeen-Angus cattle in the entire Southeast.

Mr. Edwards plans to continue to operate the remainder of the farm with commercial cattle.

Joe Keefauver will continue as manager of Ridgefields Farm. He has been connected with them since May, 1946, having formerly been manager of the Hardwicks Farm of Cleveland, Tenn.

Note: I doubt that they knew this at the time but the wife of C.P. Edwards, Jr. and the Keefauver brothers were fourth cousins.

Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Sr. married Lucemy Belle Hylton, daughter of Solomon P. Hylton and Mary Elizabeth Crouch, in 1898. Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Sr. lived on 26 June 1900 at Civil District 11, Washington Co., TN, farming.¹ He died on 2 October 1917 at Washington Co., TN, at age 56. He was buried in October 1917 at Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery, Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, Findagrave #59854081.

     Joseph Herman Keefauver was born on 2 July 1897 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of John Breckenridge Keefauver and Carrie Lou Stafford.¹

     Katherine Keefauver married Isaac Jones.

     Kathleen L. Keefauver was born on 17 November 1900 at Boone's Creek, Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Sr. and Lucemy Belle Hylton.¹ Kathleen L. Keefauver married Willard Alvin Hill in December 1940 at Hamilton Co., OH, license issuance listed in the 24 DEC 1940 edition of The Cincinnati Enquirer. They were both "of Toledo, Ohio". Alvin was first married to Dorothy Brown in 1915, in Indiana. They had children Willard Jr. and Robert. Willard Sr. and Dorothy were separated and divorced before the April 1940 census when they were listed in separate locations, unmarried.

KATHLEEN K. HILL
Kathleen Keefauver Hill, 86, Appalachian Christian Village, died Saturday in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a daughter of the late Joseph D. and Belle Hylton Keefauver.
Mrs. Hill was a member of Boones Creek Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. “Bill” Hill, two sons, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Robert Hill; two sisters, Ruby Reid, Johnson City, and Louise Dyer, Los Angeles; two brothers, Jack and Joe Keefauver, both of Johnson City; two grandsons; six nieces; and four nephews.

Note: Willard was first married to Dorothy Helen Brown. Two of the three sons (Willard Alvin Hill, Jr. and Robert W. Hill) mentioned in the above obituary belonged to Willard and Dorothy. (In the 1940 Census, Dorothy states that she has only had two children.) The mother of the third son (deceased in the above obituary) remains unknown. It is very possible that there was no third son and this is just an error in Kathleen's obituary.

Funeral services for Kathleen Keefauver Hill, 86, Appalachian Christian Village, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the Boones Creek Church of Christ with Charles Reese and Bob Gabey, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Dyer, Billy Joe Keefauver, Joe Reid, Joe Reid Jr., Grayson Dyer, Bob Hall and Robert Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish, make contributions to the Appalachian Christian Village or to the Boones Creek Church of Christ Building Fund. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Monday where the family will receive friends until service time. Appalachian Funeral Home is in charge.

     Laura A. Keefauver was born on 28 April 1907 at Washington Co., TN. She was the daughter of John Breckenridge Keefauver and Carrie Lou Stafford. Laura A. Keefauver married Herbert Allen Maden circa 1928. Laura A. Keefauver died on 19 May 1960 at Washington Co., TN, at age 53. She was buried in May 1960 at Highland Church of Christ Cemetery, Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN.

     Louisa Keefauver was born circa 1840 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of Henry Keefhaver and Elizabeth Galloway.¹

     Louise Keefauver was born circa 1906 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Deadrick Keefauver Sr. and Lucemy Belle Hylton.¹

     Martha A. Keefauver was born circa 1874 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of William Shelton Keefauver and Edna Evelyn Hunt.

     Martin Keefauver was born on 11 February 1827 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Henry Keefhaver and Elizabeth Galloway.¹ Martin Keefauver lived on 29 November 1850 at Dutch Creek, El Dorado Co., CA, Miner.¹ He died on 22 January 1856 at age 28. He was buried in January 1856 at Range Cemetery, Palmyra, Macoupin Co., IL.
Note: Martin Keefauver was apparently caught up in the gold rush of 1849 and travelled from Washington County, Tennessee to California to try his hand at gold mining. He was listed at Dutch Creek in November, 1850 on the 1850 census. After a few years, and apparently in failing health, he returned to his family who had meanwhile migrated from Tennessee to Macoupin County, Illinois. He died in Illinois and is buried at Palmyra in Range Cemetery, Macoupin County, Illinois.

     Mary Keefauver was born on 11 December 1832 at Washington Co., TN.^1,2 She was the daughter of Nicholas Keefhaver Jr. and Nancy Dicey Bacon. Mary Keefauver married Jesse Bacon on 5 August 1851. Mary Keefauver died on 20 May 1863 at Washington Co., TN, at age 30.

     Mary Keefauver was born circa 1831 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of Henry Keefhaver and Elizabeth Galloway.¹ Mary Keefauver married Peter A. Ritchie on 23 November 1851 at Washington Co., TN. Mary Keefauver married Joseph Corcoran on 3 May 1860 at Macoupin Co., IL. Mary Keefauver lived on 17 August 1860 at Township 11, Range 9, Macoupin Co., IL.² She lived on 18 June 1870 at Township 11, Range 8, Macoupin Co., IL, farming.³ She lived on 6 June 1880 at Justice Precinct 1, Henderson Co., TX, farming.⁴

     Mary A. Keefauver was born in 1863. She was the daughter of Henry Keefauver and Sarah Jane Walker. Mary A. Keefauver married William H. Hunt. Mary A. Keefauver died in 1922 at Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN.

     Mary B. Keefauver was born on 27 August 1899 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of John Breckenridge Keefauver and Carrie Lou Stafford.¹ Mary B. Keefauver died on 26 August 1900 at Washington Co., TN. She was buried in August 1900 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN.

     Mary C. Keefauver was the daughter of William Shelton Keefauver and Edna Evelyn Hunt.

     Mary Ellen Keefauver was born on 18 October 1881 at Washington Co., TN.¹ She was the daughter of Abraham Keefauver and Deborah Bacon.¹ Mary Ellen Keefauver married John Sevier Martin, son of Elbert Martin and Sarah D. Basket, on 24 July 1894 at Washington Co., TN. Mary Ellen Keefauver died on 12 December 1951 at age 70. She was buried in December 1951 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Washington Co., TN, Find A Grave Memorial# 54002293.

     Mary Florence Keefauver was born on 5 May 1920 at Sulphur Springs, Washington Co., TN. She was the daughter of William Henry Keefauver and Willie Irene Rose Martin. Mary Florence Keefauver married Opie Eugene Woodruff on 17 June 1938 at Bristol, VA. Mary Florence Keefauver lived in 1969 at Akron, Summit Co., OH. She died on 11 December 2002 at Washington Co., TN, at age 82. She was buried in December 2002 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN, Findagrave #71179036.

     Nicholas Keefauver was born circa 1829 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Henry Keefhaver and Elizabeth Galloway.¹ Nicholas Keefauver died before 18 September 1860 probably died shortly after the 1850 census, in Washington County, Tennessee. On the 1850 census, he is annotated "Idiot", indicating a serious health condition.
