WILMINGTON -- Services for Alfred H. Kiphart, 66, of 126 Columbus st., who died of a heart attack Thursday at 9:45 p.m. at Clinton Memorial Hospital, were to be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Port William Methodist church. Burial was to be in Jamestown cemetery. Survivors include one son, Donald W. Kiphart of Hartford City, Ind; one brother, Lewis Kiphart of near Blanchester; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Jones of Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Lucy Irvin of Los Angeles, Cal; four grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

     John Lewis Kephart was also known as John Lewis Kiphart. He was born on 30 October 1886 at Clinton Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Maurice W. Kephart and Eva Hutchinson.¹ John Lewis Kephart married Blanche E. Vandevort. John Lewis Kephart lived on 2 January 1920 at Harlan Twp., Warren Co., OH, farming.² He died on 2 March 1966 at Blanchester, Clinton Co., OH, at age 79.      Maurice W. Kephart was also known as "Morris" Kiphart family name was changed from "Kephart" in the late 1880s. He was born in January 1860 at Ohio per 1900 census, or 16 FEB 1869 per Findagrave.com memorial.¹ He was the son of Richard Lewis Kephart and Sarah Gilmore.² Maurice W. Kephart lived on 5 June 1880 at Washington Twp., Warren Co., OH, farm worker.³ He married Eva Hutchinson, daughter of Samuel Hutchinson and Margaret Ellen Shafer, on 10 September 1884 at Clinton Co., OH. He was born K. Maurice W. Kephart, the 9th of 10 children born to Richard Lewis (Lewis) & Sarah Gillmore Kephart. For most of his life, he went by his nickname, Morris. There are no family stories as to what the "K" & "W" stand for in Morris's name.

All of Lewis & Sarah's children were born as Kephart. They were: Eliza, Mary, Lavinia (Linnie), William, Louisa, Charles, Laura, Albert, Maurice (Morris), and Maud.

On 10 September 1884, Morris married the love of his life, Eva D Hutchinson (Ella). They were married in Warren County, Ohio. They went on to have 5 wonderful children: Alfred, John, Ethel, Lucille (Lucy), and Charles (Charlie).

Morris & Ella's first 2 children were born & baptized as Kephart, but somewhere in the late 1880's Morris started using Kiphart. His last 3 children were born & baptized as Kiphart.
It is not know why the name change occured, but many of Morris's siblings began using Kiphart as well in this same timeframe.

With the exception of a 2 year gap that found Morris & Ella living in Clinton County, Morris spent almost his entire life in Warren County, Ohio. Most of his children & grandchildren lived nearby.

     Richard Lewis Kephart was also known as "Lewis".² He was born circa 1817 at Ohio.¹ He married Sarah Gilmore on 21 February 1838 at Warren Co., OH. Richard Lewis Kephart lived on 28 June 1870 at Harlen Twp., Warren Co., OH, farming.³ He lived on 5 June 1880 at Washington Twp., Warren Co., OH, sawmill worker.² He died after 5 June 1880.

     Andrew J. Keplar was born in March 1849 at Ohio.¹ He was the son of Barnet Keplar and Hannah Woods.² Andrew J. Keplar married Mary Ellen Nutter, daughter of Henry Nutter and Elizabeth Van Horn, circa 1876. Andrew J. Keplar died on 12 January 1911 at Green Twp., Hocking Co., OH, at age 61.      Annie T. Keplar was born in July 1890 at Hocking Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Andrew J. Keplar and Mary Ellen Nutter.¹

     Della Keplar was born in February 1879 at Hocking Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Andrew J. Keplar and Mary Ellen Nutter.¹

     James H. Keplar was born in March 1884 at Hocking Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Andrew J. Keplar and Mary Ellen Nutter.¹

     Olive May Keplar was born in August 1877 at Hocking Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Andrew J. Keplar and Mary Ellen Nutter.¹

INDEPENDENCE -- Floyd E. Kepler, 22, of Anamosa, who escaped from the Mental Health Institute here April 5 and was later apprehended in Minnesota, was sentenced to 10 years in the state prison Saturday.

Kepler, charged with auto theft following his escape, appeared before District Judge Blair C. Wood.

Vernon, Linn Co., IA, WW I draft registration.¹ He was the son of Hamilton Peter Kepler and Annabelle Virginia Rankin.² Robert Rankin Kepler married Barbara M. Plummer, daughter of Ulysses G. Plummer and Caroline Mae Perrill, on 2 February 1935 at Urbana, Benton Co., IA, Ceremony by Rev. A. L. Walker, Pastor, Evangelical Church. Robert had a prior marriage on 28 SEP 1904 with Effie Hunter, who died 6 JAN 1932 at Center Point. They had children Pearl Edith, Iva Marie, Herbert Earl, Robert LaVerne, and Max Dale. According to the marriage license application, Barbara had a previous marriage, husband unknown, although she was using her maiden name. Apparently there were no children.

Robert Rankin Kepler lived on 13 April 1940 at 212 A Avenue, Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., IA.¹ He died after 1945 A Social Security claim was recorded on 23 AUG 1945. No further records found.

     Shirley May Kepler was born on 7 February 1937 at Center Point, Linn Co., IA. She was the daughter of Robert Rankin Kepler and Barbara M. Plummer. Shirley May Kepler lived between 1993 and 1994 at Bassett, Rock Co., NE. She died on 13 March 1994 at age 57 per SSDI, last residence Anamosa, Jones Co., IA.
