James Ely Kirk
Scott City - James Ely Kirk, 97, Scott County grainman since 1921, died yesterday afternoon at the Scott County Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born April 5, 1868, on a farm in Jefferson County, Ohio, and came to Kansas in 1890. He had been employed by the Santa Fe Railroad at Ellinwood, Great Bend and Sylvia.
He was married to Della A. Blackly [sic], Dec. 24, 1899, at Nickerson.
Mr. Kirk was a member of the First Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, had served on the City Council for many years, and was a director of the First National Bank, Scott City.
Surviving are the widow; five sons, Harold, Henry and Thomas, all of Scott City, Robert, Longmont, Colo., and Dr. Arthur, Spokane, Wash; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin Bastin, Mrs. Clifton Ottaway, both of Scott City, Mrs. Alden Eberly, Needham, Mass. and Mrs. C.C. Mortensen, San Pedro, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Lucia Carr, South Charleston, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Elmer Rinkel officiating. BUrial will be at the Scott County Cemetery. The Weinmann-Price Funeral Home is in charge.
He was buried in March 1966 at Scott County Cemetery, Scott City, Scott Co., KS, Findagrave #18803391.
