He was employed at Corn Products in Pekin for over 40 years.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Pekin, and of the American Legion Post 382 of Delavan, where he enjoyed many years of cooking on Sunday breakfast teams and participating in holiday flag displays.
He was an avid gardener, growing vegetables until the age of 93.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the European theater.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and, in recent years, riding a 3-wheel bicycle all around Pekin. He also loved to dance in his later years.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Davis Mortuary in Delavan. Pastor Gary Ford of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, also at Davis Mortuary.
Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Louise Klein married Fred 'Freddie' Junior McConnell June 1942, Visalia, CA. They had two children, daughter Kittie Lou (English) 1943 and Thomas Lance McConnell. Freddie and his brothers, Thomas L. and Edwin M., were pilots in WWII, known as the 'flying McConnells' and famed for their identical service careers in the Army Air Corps. In tribute to the brothers, a resolution was made May 11, 1954 to change the name of the Wichita (Kansas) Air Force Base to McConnell Air Force Base in their honor. Freddie flew 61 missions in his B-24 in the Pacific only to return home and die 21 Oct 1945 when his private plane struck a power line near Garden Plain, Kansas. Mary Louise was with him when the plane crashed but escaped injury.
Mary Louise married 1946 to Louis Napolean Stevens. They had one daughter, Nancy Drue Stevens (Miller) in 1947.
Mary Louise married 1955 Maurice Edward Wilson. Their children were Maura Dennice Wilson (Piparo) 1956 and Scott Lee Wilson 1959.
In 1961 Mary Louise married Harold Loyd Stearns. They had one son, William Robert Stearns 1962 before the marriage dissolved in 1980.

She was apparently feeling able to make the trip when the journey started and was hopeful that an operation would bring relief. An auto was secured in Lost Spring and the body was brought to Douglas to be prepared and sent back to her old home in Petersburg, Neb., which she left about eighteen months ago.
Mrs. Day was about fifty-five years of age and leaves her husband, seven sons and two daughters to mourn her death. The sons are all homesteaders and are among the best citizens in the eastern part of the county.
She was buried in 1914 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Petersburg, Boone Co., NE, Findagrave #13837161.
