CHERAW – John Olin Atkinson, 75, died Sunday March 6, 2016.

Born in Angelus, SC he was a son of the late James Owen and Marie Middleton Atkinson. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15. Mr. Atkinson was a US Army Veteran (Helicopter Mechanic) having served in Vietnam 1963-1964. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting and restoring classic cars, and hosting pig-pickins.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Barley Atkinson, sons, Bryan Steven Atkinson, John Edwin (Jamie) Atkinson, a daughter, Janice A. (Kip) Kiser all of Cheraw, SC, a brother, L. Neal (Mamie) Atkinson of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, Rachel Kiser, Graham Kiser, Kelsey Atkinson, Madyson Scott, Caleb Atkinson and Kaitlyn Atkinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents listed above and a brother, James Kenneth Atkinson.

The family received friends 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial with military honors was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Note: When Maude and John Atkinson were divorced (after she ran off with the ranch hand), both parents fought over the only son, Perry. There were not the kind of child custody laws as today and each parent would snatch him back and forth. When Perry was twelve, John and his brother took Perry to Montana to hide him from Maude. Perry stayed there to become a cowboy. Then he lied about his age and joined the army in WW1. He travelled around the world most of his life, was an explorer, and became a member of the Explorers Club based upon his travels. He became an attorney, worked for the international courts in Shanghai and eventually the Cal-Tex Oil company. He married late in life at 45.

ATTAWAY
Charles Allen, beloved husband, father, grandfather and Minister of the Gospel, went to be with the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 22, 1993, following a brief illness. He was born October 5, 1927 in Norman, Oklahoma to Willie A. and Ella B. (Mountsinger)(sic) Attaway. He was called to preach at age 14. He attended Bethany High School and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College with an AB and THB in Religion. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

On June 17, 1945, he married his sweetheart, Vurela Bynum. He served as pastor in the OKC area for 40 years, at Nazarene Gospel Mission, Grand Blvd. Church of the Nazarene, and Wesleyan Bible Church. His last pastorate was at Heritage Bible Church in Dallas, Tx. In 1973, he formed Wesleyan Christian School at 3745 SW 25 in OKC, where he served as Superintendent. For the last 10 years, he was affiliated with ACE Schools and fulfilled a lifelong dream and calling of ministering to India via Accelerated Christian Educational Consultant for India. His missionary work was woldwide.

He was predeceased in death by both parents and is survived by his wife, Vurela; and two sons, Charles A. Attaway, Jr. of MWC and Paul Stephen Attaway and wife, Bonita of Argyle, Tx., 6 grandchildren, Charles A. Attaway, III, and John Attaway of OKC, Christie, Elizabeth, Paul Stephen, Jr. and Jonathan Attaway of Argyle, Tx.

His dedication, commitment and godly lifestyle influenced countless lives and will long continue to do so. "Thank you, Pastor Attaway, we are many whose lives were changed! We will meet you in the morning ..." Services will be held at Vondel Smith Funeral Home, 69th & S. Western, on Thursday, March 25, 1993, at 2:00 p.m., with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

He was buried in March 1993 at Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK, Findagrave #117362459.
