After high school, Howard went to work for Goodyear in Akron Ohio. He married Ethel Snyder and had 2 sons; Robert and Ronald. He then joined the Army Air Corps. Howard was stationed at Sheppard Field Texas along with his twin brother Harry.

After the War, Howard divorced his wife Ethel and went to Yuma, Arizona to find work. He was employed by an electrical service company there. He then met and married Mary Frances McCain there and started his 2nd family.

During the years spent at Yuma, Howard enjoyed going hunting and fishing. His brothers Harry, Donald and Arthur had followed him from Akron to Yuma. They loved to go fishing in the Colorado River up at Martinez Lake and Laguna Dam. They went hunting for quail and dove and in season they would go hunting for big horn sheep in the mountains.

Years later, he and Mary left Yuma and moved to San Pablo, California.

During his career, he was involved with overseeing the electral part of dock unloading equipment in Viet Nam and Israel during the Viet Nam War.

He was buried in March 2003 at Skyview Memorial Park, Vallejo, Solano Co., CA, Findagrave #33376269.

John was the Son of Jonathan Longbottom and Frances Hick of West Yorkshire, England.

John and his wife Mary left Liverpool, England for the USA with five of their living children in 1854 on the ship Hibernia. They arrived September 13, 1854 in Philadelphia. Their last son, Edward Longbottom, was born at Mt Laffe, Schuylkill Co., Pa. on June 8, 1856. Their daughter Mary Ann also married William Beadle there on June 22, 1856. John was naturalized on August 3, 1859 at the Court House in Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio Book B Page 404. The last known record for both of them is in the 1870 Federal Census of Green, Twp., Mahoning Co., Ohio where they are listed on the same page (137B) as John and Mary Longbat (not Longbottom) next to Edward Longbat and Jonathan Longbat. Their son John is on page 139A.

Ray enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served in the South Pacific fighting the Japanese. His ship (an LST) was sunk during a typhoon in the South China Sea.

After the war, Ray took up farming on a small farm near Killbuck Ohio. He then moved his family to Prescott, Arizona where one of his Navy buddies (Bill Storm) had a ranch. He opened up a refrigeration sevice. A few years after that he moved his family to El Paso Texas and again opened up a refrigeration service.

Hazel had a son Ralph by her first marriage to Jack Perrin and two daughters, Patty and Lois with her husband Ray.

He was buried in February 2005 at Azleland Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Reno, Parker Co., TX, Findagrave #37779902.

Attached to Post and Defences of Nashville, Dept. of the Cumberland, to December, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division. 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to March, 1865. District of Nashville, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to June, 1865.

SERVICE -- Provost and guard duty at Nashville, Tenn., September, 1864, to June, 1865. Battle of Nashville, December 15-16, 1864. Mustered out June 18, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 102 enlisted men by disease.

Organized for one years service September 21, 1864, under Colonel Edwin C. Mason, it moved to Nashville and during the siege and battle at that place was in the works. Many of the officers and men were veteran soldiers and were proficient in drill and discipline. The Regiment was mustered out June 18, 1865.

He married Margaret Ellen Boston, daughter of Jacob Boston and Eve Elizabeth Windle, on 20 November 1866 at Columbiana Co., OH. "Thomas Longbottom, a native of Rothwell, Yorkshire, England, and a pensioner of the civil war, died at 1 o’clock Wednesday morning after a protracted illness with heart trouble, aged 67 years and 6 months. His wife died Sept. 30 when visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Summerville, at Garfield, and his sister, Mrs. Frances Heatherington, died at Fairbury, Ill., Jan 27. He is survived by three brothers, John H. and Jonathan of this place and Edward of Fairbury, Ill., besides the following sons and daughters: John and Jacob of Akron, Edward of Washingtonville, William of Franklin Square, Eva Summerville, of Garfield, Lydia Senior and Mella Young of this village. Deceased was a member of Burnside Post GAR and carried a policy in the Prudential Life Ins. Co. Funeral services will be held Friday with interment beside his wife in Oakland Cemetery."

Thomas was the son of John Longbottom and Mary Ann Hopton. He married Margaret Ellen Boston on November 20, 1866 shortly after returning from his duties in the Union Army during the Civil War. They were the parents of eight children: Jacob Boston, Eve Ann, John, Thomas W, Mildred Mae, Edward C, George A and Lydia M.

John Longbottom and wife Mary Ann Hopton were the "Immigrants" who brought all their children to the USA on the ship Hibernia in 1854. They were the parents of nine children. Three died in infancy in England, five came over with them and one was born in Schuylkil Co., Pennsylvania, Those that grew to adulthood were: Mary Ann, Frances, John Henry, Thomas, Jonathan and Edward who were born in the USA.

Thomas was a coal miner.

He was buried in February 1911 at Washingtonville Cemetery, Washingtonville, Mahoning Co., OH.
