Biographical Information -- (Findagrave.com):
As touching the early history of the Frederick family we can not do better than to make copious excerpts from an article prepared by Mrs. Addie Frederick, wife of Joseph Frederick, of Hudson, Indiana, and read by her before the large company assembled at the third annual family reunion held at Lake Park, near Hudson, Indiana, in September, 1899:
In looking up the history of the Frederick family we find four different branches. Three came from Germany and one from Switzerland, but we have not been able to trace their descendants to a common parentage, although it is possible that three of them are descendants from the same parentage, from the fact of their coming from Germany. The family of which this reunion forms a part we have traced only to Nicholas--seven generations back. Nicholas came form Germany about the middle of the eighteenth century, the name of his wife being Catharine. We do not know where he first settled, but he lived in Columbiana county, Ohio, near Washingtonville, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Both he and his wife died prior to 1829 and they are buried in the Lutheran cemetery in Washingtonville. They became the parents of six children -- John, David, Joseph, Cunrod, Mary, and a daughter whose name is unknown. Of these children we find that John and David and the two daughters settled in Jefferson county, Ohio, near Steubenville, and that Joseph and Cunrod settled in Columbiana county, Ohio. One of the daughters married a Mr. Adams and the other a Mr. Grafton. Of this family Joseph Frederick (from whom the subject of this sketch traces his direct lineage) was born December 1, 1776, and was married to Mary Crubaugh, November 2, 1797.They first settled in Erie county, Pennsylvania, where they lived until 1801, when they moved to Columbiana county, Ohio, and settled on the Cherry forks, one-half mile east of the site of the old homestead which still stands, removing to the latter in 1817.The log house is still standing (1899) and the large brick house, which they built in 1822, is now nearly as good as when built--eighty years ago. When his father died Joseph Frederick took his mother to his home and cared for her through her afflictions. She was confined to her bed for two years prior to her death. Joseph Frederick was a cooper and did a thriving business in those days. He had a good trade among the Indians, who camped along the Cherry forks to hunt, taking his pay in trade, such as deer skins, bear's oil, etc. Catherine Frederick, who was confined to her bed during her last two years, was cared for during this time by her son, Joseph Frederick. She died in 1829. Family history lists that both Nicholas and Catherine Frederick are buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Washingtonville, Columbiana County, Ohio.
The Columbiana County, Ohio Cemetery Inscription survey compiled in 1975 showed no marker for Nicholas or Catherine in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery as well as a through visual survey in 2012. However an abandoned family plot was reported in Vol. 5, pg.67:
"The Frederick family cemetery of about 16 graves is on the knoll east of the barn on the Harry Neiheisel farm in the southern part of Section 6. Members of the Frederick family would make annual trips from Chicago by way of the Pennsylvania Railroad to Leetonia to mow and take car of the cemetery."
They reported the cemetery abandoned which is true. But Peter Neiheisel who lives in his grandfather's home at 912 Beeson Mill Rd. (Fairfield Twp., Sec 6), reported in 2012 that he remembers the cemetery as a boy about 75 yards behind his home. In recent years a headstone was unearthed but the inscription proved unreadable. In 2013 an on site inspection found the area plowed under and prepared for planting. The knoll north east of the barn has been farmed for 20 years. Peter recalls several stone markers being stacked against the barn many years ago, but no stones were located. It is very likely that this is Nicholas and Catherine's true resting place or at least those of his son Joseph's family.
She was buried in 1829 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Washingtonville, Mahoning Co., OH, Findagrave #42579876.
