Robert Hundley Maloney
M, b. 10 June 1930, d. 1 September 2018
Robert Hundley Maloney was also known as "Bob". He was born on 10 June 1930 at Portland, Multnomah Co., OR; son of Hundley Ray and Helen M. (Butcher) Maloney. He began military service Korean War service, U.S. Marine Corps, Sgt. He married Georgeann Owen on 1 October 1965 at Multnomah Co., OR. Robert Hundley Maloney died on 1 September 2018 at age 88
Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):
Bob was born in Portland to Ray Hundley Maloney and Helen Butcher Maloney, an Oregon pioneering family. He grew up in the Montavilla neighborhood, attending Vestal Grade School and graduating from Washington High School in 1948, where he made many lifelong friends. Bob worked through high school and after as a driver for Meier and Frank and the Frank family. He was working for Frank Chevrolet when he enlisted in the Marines. He served in Korea in 1952 & 53 attaining the rank of Sgt. His experiences in Korea are documented in an oral history project at Wellesley College.
Bob attended Vanport College and Portland State University. He worked for Mayflower Farms (now Darigold) until his retirement. In 1956 he married Lois Darrow and had two children, Rob and Shannon McCabe. In 1965 he met and soon married Georgeann "Jo" Miller. He also instantly became Jo's daughter, Sharon's awesome 'daddy'. They were married for 52 years until her passing in May, 2017.
Able to drive and fix anything with wheels (except maybe an unfortunate unicycle incident) he started racing sports cars throughout the Northwest and Canada. He was a member of TCO and CSCC until his death. Unable to pursue his artistic talents in college so as to support the family, he instead was able to apply these gifts to all he did. Whether that was welding, brick work, construction, landscaping or just carving a pumpkin, each project included a little artistic flair.
Camping and fishing since a toddler, he instilled upon us, not only these skills but a great love and respect for the natural environment, especially in Oregon, with the Metolius River being a favorite. Nelscott (now part of Lincoln City) having been incorporated by his uncle, Charles Nelson, was also a place where many days and weeks were happily spent, both in his youth and adulthood.
The house was forever full of animals. Cats, dogs, hamsters, fish and even a pet rat that rode around on his shoulder! The yard was the same, pet squirrels, all types of birds, from hummingbirds to pheasants, raccoons, deer and one very old garden snake. Like the Pied Piper, the neighborhood kids were constantly following him around the yard, or peeking into the garage wondering what he was up to and could they 'play' with him.
Bob was a student of history, a lover of big band music and jazz. He was a Veteran, Teamster and Democrat. A wonderful friend, husband and the very best dad, he will be sorely missed. He has been interred in Willamette National Cemetery. At his request, there will be no service.
