Head-on collision kills two drivers

Two motorists were killed in a head-on collision on Ohio 571, three miles east of Tipp City, about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Miami County sheriff's deputies said. Pronounced dead at the scene were Charles Martindale, 21, of 42 W. Hayes St., West Milton, and Joseph Johnson, 39, of 311 N. Pike St., New Carlisle. Both men were travelling alone.

Both victims were trapped in their vehicles for a lengthy period of time. Ohio 571 was shut down in the area of the Pisgah Road intersection for several hours. Deputies said the eastbound car driven by Martindale went left of center while rounding a curve and collided with the Johnson car. A witness said Martindale did not have his headlights on.

West Milton woman, 21, killed in Ontario wreck

WEST MILTON -- Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday for Della Martindale, 21, of 42 W. Hayes St., who was killed Sunday night when she was struck by a car near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Ontario police said Miss Martindale was riding a motorcycle with Frederick Post, 23, of Mesa, Ariz., when the vehicle stalled. They said that as they tried to get the cycle started they were both hit by a passing car.

Miss Martindale, a 1974 graduate of Milton-Union high school, was dead on arrival at Port Arthur General Hospital. Post was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay, where he was in fair condition with a broken leg.

Miss Martindale is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Martindale of West Milton, one brother and one sister.

Services will be at the Hale-Sarver Funeral Home in West Milton.

SMITHFIELD, IL - Glade R. Martindale, 87, of Smithfield passed away at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL.
He was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Bernadotte, Ill., the son of Grover and Willie (Green) Martindale. He married Mildred LaFern Pigg on Aug. 4, 1945, in Lewistown. She died July 4, 1994.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Bill Martindale, one brother and three sisters.
Surviving are four sons, Robert (Debra) Martindale of Smithfield, Doug (Cheryl) Martindale of Ipava, Dennis (Elizabeth) Martindale of Canton and Kenneth (Beverly) Martindale of Lewistown; three daughters, Sara (Jeff) Toomer of Mahomet, Gena (Dana) O'Leary of Canton and Ellen (Steven) Milleson of Canton; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Freda (Joe) Gallien of Canton.
He worked for more than 40 years as a coal miner before retiring and was a member of the UMWA.
He was a WWII Army veteran, serving with the 104th Infantry Timber Wolves, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a 60-year member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001.
He enjoyed working hard, gardening, dogs and babies. He also enjoyed listening to music at Hilda's and the VFW in Lewistown.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with the Rev. Layton Malone officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be Sunday, April 5, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the memorial home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

He was buried in April 2009 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Fulton Co., IL.

Kenneth Marvin

G. Kenneth Marvin, 37, was taken home by Jesus on Friday, May 16, 1980 after a long illness.

He leaves beloved wife, Patricia J. (Paddy); trusted children, Amanda, Brenda, and Cynthia. He is also survived by parents, George Marvin and Betty Rader; brothers, Daniel and Raymond Marvin; grandmothers, Ethel Bunting and Ethel Marvin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 1670 Shatto Av., with Dr. R. A. Corkern and the Rev. G. E. Wadlington officiating. Friends may call at the First Baptist Church Monday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment Crown Hill cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Hodgkins Society of Summit County or the Visiting Nurse Service.

     Viola Marie Marvin was born on 17 April 1920 at Richfield, Summit Co., OH. She was the daughter of Benjamin R. Marvin and Edith Frances Wendell. Viola Marie Marvin married John Artymovich in 1940 at Brook Co., WV. Viola Marie Marvin died on 8 May 1992 at age 72

Viola M. Artymovich

TALLMADGE -- Viola M. Artymovich, 72, passed away May 8, 1992.

Mrs. Artymovich was born in Akron, had lived most of her life here, and spent the last 20 years in Arizona. She was manager of food service at O'Neils for 25 years until her retirement.

She is survived by daughter, Kathryn; son, John; aunt, Florence Belchambers of Tallmadge; brothers, Jim Marvin of California and George of Akron; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave., Pastor John C. Phillips officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Richfield, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
