O. M'BRIDE IS DEAD
One of City's Best Known Young Men Claimed by Death at Denver on Sunday.
ANNOUNCE FUNERAL LATER
Had Been Engaged in the Shoe Business With His Father For Several Years.
Oliver McBride, 27 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. McBride, 416 Linn street, died at Fitzsimmons' hospital, Denver, at 6:30 o'clock Sunday evening.
Mr. McBride, who was one of the best known young men of Leavenworth, was born December 24, 1895, at St. Joseph, Mo. He came to Leavenworth with his parents when two years of age and had made his home here since that time.
Was Well Known Here.
Mr. McBride attended the public schools of this city and graduated from the Leavenworth high school with the class of 1913. Later he graduated from the Commercial Law school in Kansas City.
After completing his education, he went into the shoe business with his father, then located on South Fifth street.
Shortly after the United States entered the World war, Mr. McBride answered the call for men and entered the army. He was stationed in the southern part of the country and was not sent overseas. He was honorably discharged from the army several months after the armistice was signed.
In Business Here.
Upon the return of Mr. McBride to Leavenworth, he and his father purchased the Bub shoe store on Delaware street, the present location of McBride shoe store. The young man's health began to fail in a short time, however, and about six months ago sought a change in climate, going to a government sanitarium at Hot Springs, S. D. He soon found that climate unsuitable and went to Denver, where at first he improved under the brave fight for life, but later the turn came for the worse.
Oliver's mother went to Denver some time ago to be at his bedside. His father went to Denver last week.
Announce Funeral Later.
The body, accompanied by the parents, will arrive in Leavenworth on the 11:18 Burlington, Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be announced later by J. A. Bush, funeral director, at the convenience of relatives.
Oliver McBride was a young man of the finest type, loyal and dependable in all his association and business relations. He possessed a happy disposition and was greatly beloved by a large circle of friends who mourn his death.
He was a very active member of the Congregational church and was a member of King Solomon Lodge No. 10, A. F. & A. M; Leavenworth Chapter No. 2, Royal Arch Masons; Leavenworth Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar; and Abdallah Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the Leavenworth Kiwanis club.
Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. McBride, he is survived by two grandmothers.
From The Leavenworth Post, Monday, February 12, 1923.
He was buried in February 1923 at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Leavenworth Co., KS, Findagrave #157116242.
