He spent the next 42 years in a variety of managerial capacities with that company in Washington, Oregon and California, retiring in 1963. He was working in Sacramento from 1942 on, where he acted as a retail property representative responsible for locating and acquiring real property o which to build service stations throughout all of northern California and most of the state of Nevada. He was especially proud to have been chosen in 1935 to be the first company representative stationed in British Columbia, Canada when Standard Oil moved into that country.

Bob was very active in Masonic affairs all his adult life, joining that order in 1924. He belonged to the Scottish Rite Bodies, Ben Ali Temple of the Shrine, the York Rite Bodies and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was greatly honored to be awarded the designation of the 33rd Degree Mason, the highest degree bestowed by the Order. He was a longtime member of Sons in Retirement (SIRS), Chapter 3. Bob was a very talented musician, playing the piano and organ. He was the official organist of Ben Ali Shrine Temple for over 30 years, playing at ceremonies and public and social affairs. He performed the same duties for the Scottish Rite until his death, as well as for SIRS. Bob loved to golf and scored his age several times into his eighties. He was the golf tournament chairman of his SIRS chapter till his death, when he was still handling two events a month. He conducted his last tournament the week before his death. Bob loved to travel, and after he retired, he visited over most of the world. He also acted as tour director and escort for Masonic and SIRS tours in the United States and to Alaska and Hawaii, the South Pacific and Australia. As a result of his many years of work for Standard Oil and his many fraternal activities and his hobbies. Bob gathered a huge number of friends who always enjoyed and appreciated his camaraderie and ready wit.
