Obituary - Mrs. Rachel Greeley
Rachel [Jane] Barnes, daughter of Isam and Deborah [Lindamood] Barnes, was born Jan. 5, 1855, in Iowa County, Iowa, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fannie Weller, August 29, 1945, aged 90 years, 8 months and 24 days.
She was married to Frank Greeley, Dec. 22, 1875, at Marengo, Iowa. To them, nine children were born: Millard J. [ames], who died Dec. 4, 1944; Anna Hamilton, who died Dec. 14, 1915; Ida M. [ay] Preston of San Bernardino, California; Harry, who died in infancy; John of San Bernardino; Fannie Weller of Conway; Ethelinda Hadley of Santa Monica, California; Jennie Newkirk of Blockton; and David of Burlington Junction, Mo. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Amanda Robbins, of Bedford.
In 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Greeley came to Taylor County, locating on a farm northwest of Gravity. In early life she was converted and was a charter member of the Gravity Methodist church. She was always a faithful, consistent, Christian mother.
In 1922 they moved to Burlington Junction, Mo., where they resided until 1928, when they came back to Bedford, where Mr. Greeley died Feb. 4, 1936.
Besides her sister and six children, she leaves thirty-one grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.
She had seven grandsons, three great grandsons and two grandsons-in-law in the service, one of whom, Lt. Alvin Hamilton, made the supreme sacrifice in January 1942 at Corregidor. It was the great joy of her life when she heard the glad news of peace.
She was a great lover of home and sacrificed much for the welfare of her home and family as well as any neighbor, who needed help. She was loved by all who knew her.
The funeral services were held at the Walker-Shum Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. W. Proctor of Sharpsburg. The pallbearers were grandsons: Paul Greeley, Ralph Weller, Dale Newkirk, Dean Newkirk, Kenneth Bears and Lt. Frank C. Hadley. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

Obituary—Mrs. Sarah Benjamin
Mrs. Sarah Catherine Benjamin was born in Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa, May 5, 1853, and passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Elsie Thompson near Cambridge, Nebraska, July 22, 1926 at 1:30 A. M. at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 17 days.
Her father's name was Isom [Isam] Barnes and her mother's name Deborah Lindewood [Lindamood]. She married Jas. W.[atson] Nation at Fontenelle, Iowa, November 1871, when she was 18 years of age. To this union were born three daughters and two sons, both sons dying in infancy.
From 1871 to 1879 they made their home at Stuart, Iowa, and then moved to Sharpsburg, Taylor County, Iowa. Mr. Nation died April 21, 1894.
Mrs. Nation married George W. Benjamin at Bedford, Iowa, October 16, 1913. They lived here until they moved to Trenton, Nebr., in June 1915 and there made their home until her death.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, three daughters, Cora Sweigard of Oelrichs, S. Dakota, Amanda Sweigard of New Raymer, Colo, and Mrs. Blanche Heatherington of Oakland, Iowa, Also one brother, John Barns of Ashby, Nebr., two sisters, Rachel Greeley of Burlington Junction, Mo. and Mrs. Amanda Robbins of Bedford, Iowa, three step daughters, Myrtle Sterns and Willie Hinkle of Trenton, Nebr., and Mrs. Willie Hinkle of Worland, Wyo., four stepsons, Marion, Tom, Grover and Frank Benjamin, all of Trenton, 31 grand children, 15 great grand children and a host of loving friends.
Mrs. Benjamin was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg, Iowa. As a mother she was loving, as a wife she was true, and as a grandmother, children highly esteemed her. She was loved by her friends and neighbors.
Services were held at the home in Trenton, Rev. A. W. Reper, officiating. Text used Rev. 22:12.
The body was brought back to her old home at Sharpsburg and services held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday July 25th, the Rev. McClellan in charge, and interment was made in the Conway cemetery.
She was buried in June 1926 at Conway Cemetery, Conway, Taylor Co., IA, Findagrave #50601608.
