"During a raid make by Confederate scouts through this section about the time of the Antietam battle, and effort was made to get Mr. Henry F. Neikirk's eleven head of horses which he had hidden away along the Antietam Creek, behind some large rock cliffs. Mr. Neikirk was taken, after an attempt was made to burn his barn, to compel him to tell where his horses were, and this failing, they then followed him to his house to get his money. They got a small amount of silver, but a purse containing several hundred dollars was concealed by Miss Lizzie, his daughter. Finally Mr. Neikirk was taken by them and hung up by a leather halter, until he was black, trying to force him to tell, but he would not tell. His son George cut him down just in time to save his life. The horses were taken on another occasion." O. T. DEATH HAS ENDED HER SUFFERING

Mrs. Lucy N. Williams Breathes Her Last After Years of Sickness -- The Mother of Mrs. Walter Hobart.

SAN RAFAEL, January 21. -- After a painful illness covering a period of more than seventeen years Mrs. Lucy Neil Williams, wife of Captain W. W. Williams, U.S.N., and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Neil of this city, died at the residence of her parents on Sixth street at half-past 7 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Williams had been at the point of death for many months, and when the end came this morning it was not unexpected.

Mrs. Williams was born in Columbus, O., fifty years ago. Her maiden name was Lucy Neil. She was married to Lieut. Williams, now Pay-Director in the United States Navy with the rank of Captain, in 1869. Ten years later she came to California on account of failing health with her parents and family, and took up residence in San Rafael. Mrs. Williams soon became a helpless invalid.

Mrs. Williams leaves a son and two daughters: Wilberforce Williams, Miss Juliette Williams and Mrs. Walter Hobart. Her husband, Captain W. W. Williams, is now stationed at New London, Conn. The funeral announcement has not yet been made, but it is expected that the interment will take place at Columbus, O., where Neil Williams, a son, was buried two years ago.

She was buried in January 1897 at Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, Findagrave #73963286.
