MSgt. Charles Naffziger Jr. was also known as Charles Sherwood.1 He was born on 16 February 1919 at Chillicothe, Peoria Co., IL, Charles was listed on the 2 January, 1920 federal census as Charles Sherwood, grandson of Charles Naffziger and his wife Nona, age ten months. It appears that, while he was still very young, his mother determined to make a new life on the west coast and left him to be raised by her mother and stepfather. Thus he was called Charles Naffziiger, Jr., and there is no evidence that he was aware of the subterfuge. In 1940, he was called "brother in-law" to Bessie's husband, Robert Snyder, indicating that Robert did not know he was Bessie's son. DLB 2021.1
