John Neuschwanger

John Neuschwanger was also known as John Niswanger. He was born on 20 March 1742 at Frederick Co., VA.1 He was the son of Jacob Neuschwanger and Maria Gertraut Brombach. John Neuschwanger married Margaret Good circa 1766. John Neuschwanger began military service in 1774 at Frederick Co., VA, where he was listed as "Ensign" in Captain Peter Helphenstine's Company which was sent to the Ohio Valley to subdue the Indians in "Dunmore's War", and fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant, 10 OCT 1774. Upon breaking out of the Revolution, on 29 DEC 1776 Niswanger enlisted in Captain John Lemon's Company of the 13th Virginia Regiment, from Frederick County, holding the rank of sergeant. He was referred to as "Capt." Niswanger in assignment of rations to his company in 1777. His unit was at Ft. Henry in February 1778 and was at Ft. Pitt in the fall of 1779. He took the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 3 MAY 1780 and was listed at his home in Frederick County as "Col. John Nisewanger" in a 1782 census of Frederick County.2
He lived, at Frederick County, Virginia before relocating first to Marietta and soon thereafter to Salisbury Twp. in Gallia County, which is now part of Meigs County since 1819.3
He died on 13 July 1821 at Middleport, Meigs Co., OH, at age 79.4 He was buried in July 1821 at Middleport, Meigs Co., OH.

Michael Wolfe, second husband of Maria Brombach, was a "chain bearer" for a surveyor in Virginia. A lawsuit was filed in Gallia County, Ohio on June 12, 1809 accusing John Neuschwanger (son of Maria by her first marriage) of having fraudently kept property that should have passed to her children from Michael Wolfe. The lawsuit dragged on for a dozen years and was eventually decided in favor of Neuschwanger. (Gallia County, OH, Chancery Book "F" pp. 123-141.)

Ed married the love of his life, Suzanne Sawyer, and they reared their three boys in Fort Worth. He loved being outside in this beautiful world the Lord created evidenced by his Eagle Scout rank and his years of activity in the Boy Scouts. He loved sports, especially his Horned Frogs, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a sweet and gentle family man, always generous with his time, and willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. Ed was a devout Christian always extremely active in the church beginning as a youth with Billy Graham Ministries and as a chaplain at the Union Gospel Mission delivering the Gospel to the homeless for years. He found his calling in witnessing the Gospel to inmates of the Tarrant County Jail every Tuesday evening and volunteering as a chaplain at Sanders Estes Unit on Wednesday evenings.
