Betty June Kosher, age 92, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. She was born on November 27, 1920 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois the daughter of Ervie and Esther Smith Neuschwanger. On August 25, 1942, she married Kenneth Harlan Kosher in Illinois and was the loving mother of Lyle Dean Kosher of Ross, Ohio. She knew the hard work and benefits of living on a farm. She worked at Ft. Hamilton Hospital in the mid 60’s as a nurse’s aide on the maternity ward. She loved fishing and camping with her husband, son and friends. Betty enjoyed all types of crafts and made many beautiful things that will be treasured by friends and family she shared them with. Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Peggy Heatherly Kosher; one granddaughter, Becky and her husband, Rusty Sundsvold; one grandson, Jason Lyle Kosher; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Jim Lindsay; her brother-in-law, Emmerson Kosher; her great grandchildren, Cheyenne Kosher, Gannon and Gavin Frantz, Allisza Dixon and Aidan Sundsvold, Laci Sizemore and Shayson Kosher; great-great granddaughter, Amelia Hagedorn; honorary grandchildren, Niki Reek, Briana Estep, Nakota Reek, Daniel Spivey, and Jesse, Samantha and Lexi Frantz; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and great grandchild Peyton Lee Sundsvold; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Francis Neuschwanger and Glen and Alice Neuschwanger. Christian Neuschwanger

M, b. between 1750 and 1752, d. 1 July 1831
     Christian Neuschwanger was also known as Christian Niswander. He was born between 1750 and 1752 at Frederick Co., VA.1 He was the son of Jacob Neuschwanger and Maria Gertraut Brombach. Christian Neuschwanger married Barbara Supinger, daughter of Hans Ulrich Zuppinger and Anna Schonauer, in 1774 at Shenandoah Co., VA, Ceremony by Rev. Peter Muhlenberg. Christian Neuschwanger lived in 1802, Christian and Barbara sold their land in Shenandoah County in February 1802 and relocated to Greene County, Pennsylvania.


Note: Christian "Nisswander" of Greene County, Pennsylvania testified in the Niswonger et al vs. Dickinson et al, lawsuit, otherwise known as the "Panhandle Case" in Wheeling in October 1808. This case was a suit brought by the surviving children of John Neuschwanger, Sr. to try to reclaim land first settled by their brothers. Ohio County, WV Chancery Court, 1808.2

He died on 1 July 1831 at Ohio Co., VA (now WV).3

Erve McKinley Neuschwanger1

     Erve McKinley Neuschwanger was born on 12 July 1897 at Illinois.1 He married Esther R. Smith on 7 March 1918. Erve McKinley Neuschwanger died on 8 June 1945 at St. Francis Hospital, Freeport, Stephenson Co., IL, at age 47 Obituary (Findagrave.com):

Erve Neuschwanger, 47, of Mount Carroll, died at 2 p.m. Friday June 8, 1945 in St. Francis Hospital, Freeport, which he entered Monday as a medical patient. Death was the result of an overdose of phenol barbital, a medicine taken by Neuschwanger, who had been in ill health for some time.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Frank Funeral Home in Mount Carroll, the Rev. Stanley A. Birdsall officiating, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Son of Christian and Mathilda (Souders) Neuschwanger, he was born July 12, 1897 at Mount Carroll. He married Esther Smith of Mount Carroll on March 7, 1918. They moved from their farm to the city of Mount Carroll last fall. Surviving are his widow; two sons, Harry and Glenn, both of Mount Carroll; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Kosher of Lanark and Doris at home; two grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Hattie Fulrath and Mrs. John Jones, both of Mount Carroll, Mrs. Edith Robbe of Savanna, and Mrs. Hugo Kholbry and Mrs. George Mitchell, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and four brothers, Charles, Ward, Earl, and Roy, all of Mount Carroll.

He was buried in June 1945 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL, Findagrave #74749544.
