Richard Newell

Richard Frank NEWELL, youngest son of Harry and Viola NEWELL, was born July 8, 1929, at the family home and died at the Feldhut Memorial Hospital at Stafford, Kans., Jan. 5, 1937, age 7 years, 5 months, and 27 days.

Richard had met with a painful accident November 5, and suffered much pain, but seemed to be recovering nicely, when it became necessary to operate again on the broken leg. he was unable to bear the shock and strain, and at about 6:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, he slipped quietly away.

Little Richard had a cheery greeting and smile for all. He lived all his life in the Eureka neighborhood, attended the Eureka church, was a member of the Rose Bud class in Sunday school, and went to the Eureka school. So he will be greatly missed by all his little companions in the neighborhood.

The day he died, while his mother was caring for him, they were speaking of death, and his mother asked him if he would be afraid to die. He looked up into her face and said, "No, mother, I love God."

But his death came as a great shock to the family and friends.

He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother; two brothers, Donald and Rexford; his Grandmother NEWELL and a host of near relatives and friends.

Friends gathered at the family, home, where a short service was held, following which, funeral services were held at the Eureka church Thursday afternoon, Jan. 7, with the pastor, the Rev. Handley, in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. Susie Shrauner, who brought the message and the Rev. Dell Parnham, after which the body was laid to rest in the Stafford cemetery.
