Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Born in her family's country home near Searcy, Ark., to Wm. Carl Owen and Norma Benedict Owen, the fourth and youngest child. Raised in Oklahoma, she moved to the Portland area in 1947.

Having never attended the same school for more than one year, she stayed in Oregon when her parents returned to Oklahoma. She attended Gresham H.S. where she met her lifelong friends, the 'Gresham Girls' and graduated in 1951.

She married Richard 'Dick' Miller in 1956 and had one daughter, Sharon. Dick died in 1961. Jo married Robert 'Bob' Maloney in 1965. She is survived by her husband; daughter; and two step children.

She worked as secretary to the president of Portland Gas and Coke Co. (becoming Northwest Natural Gas Co.), and was a member of Executive Secretaries, Inc. After taking a few years off, she worked as the Alaska Travel Consultant for a travel agency; an international racing team; and co-owned an arts and crafts store in Lake Oswego.

Jo has been a member of Cascade Sports Car Club for 60 years. In 1959 she served as secretary of the International Conference of Northwest Sports Car Club (now ICSCC), and her home was headquarters. In 1961 she was active in the formation of what is now Portland International Raceway, originally planned as a much needed sports car road racing facility in the region. She was very proud of the fact that PIR is still enjoyed by so many to this day. She raced in the first Rose Cup Powder Puff race there. In 1969, she was the first and only woman race chairman of the annual Rose Cup Race. She was the woman in charge of 600 workers and 250 entrants. In 1968, she led a group of racing enthusiasts on a European tour that included the Porsche and Mercedes factories and test tracks and the Grand Prix of Monaco.

She would always make herself available to any relatives or friends who needed help. She was an advocate and caregiver to many people. She made friends everywhere she went and was always interested in their lives. She loved to camp, fish, travel, organize parties and watch sports. She was a proud Democrat.

Jo's smile, fun spirit and loving ways would light up any room she entered. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 2, 217 at the Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, 11667 S.E. Stevens Rd., Happy Valley, OR 97086, followed by a lunch/celebration from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Aerie at Eagle Landing, 10220 S.E. Causey Ave., Happy Valley, OR 97086.
