JAKE PAINTER, 90, COUNTY PIONEER'S GRANDSON, DIES
The grandson of one of the early settlers of Springfield and Greene County died Saturday afternoon in St. John's Hospital.
He was Jake Painter, 90, a longtime resident of Nixa and a retired welder and farmer. His grandfather, Jake Painter, was one of the first settlers of Springfield and Greene County.
Mr. Painter died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday following a long illness. He was a member of the James River Chapel Church of Christ. His wife, Stella, died less than three weeks ago.
Survivors include three sons, Claud, Branson, Ray, Nixa and Leslie, Vinita, Okla; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Inman, Kansas City, and Mrs. Marcia Haworth, Nixa; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Harris Chapel at Nixa with Evangelist Edward Buttram officiating. Burial will follow in the McConnell Memorial Cemetery near Nixa.
