     Ethel Inez Payne was born on 6 April 1904 at Washington Co. (probably), IN. She was the daughter of Samuel Oscar Payne and Dora Lincoln McClellan. Ethel Inez Payne married Ellis Otho Rodman, son of John R. Rodman and Sarah A. Floyd, on 19 March 1924.      Ethel Inez, daughter of Samuel O. and Dora L. Payne was born April 6, 1904 and departed this life December 20, 1924, age 20 years, 9 months and 24 days. She was united in marriage to Ellis O. Rodman on March 19, 1924 and to this union was born one daughter, Evelyn Marie, an infant but a few days old and who will be denied the blessings of a mothers love.
     Besides her husband, father and mother, she leaves to mourn their loss two sisters, Eva Grace of this place and Lillian Mae McCoskey of Webster City, Iowa and two brothers Freddie Ray and William Lewis, both of this place, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
     Ethel confessed her Savior and was united with the Methodist church in 1920 while Rev. Leist was preaching at Conway. Both before and since that time she has been identified with church and community work and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand wherever it seemed to be needed. For several years she has been secretary as well as organist of the Conway Sunday school and with her cheerful disposition and regular attendance did much toward keeping up interest in Sunday school work. She was especially fond of music and was endowed with a beautiful voice. She graduated from the common school at South Boston about four years ago, where she endeared herself to her school mates and teachers alike, all of whom will feel a personal loss in her departure. Most of her short life was spent with her father and mother, however since her marriage she and her husband have lived at Oaklandon, Ind., a few miles north of Indianapolis. Her husband, father and mother were at her bedside when the end came.

She was buried in December 1924 at Conway Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Eula F. Payne was born on 19 November 1919 at Illinois.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph F. Payne and Inez Simmons.² Eula F. Payne married Frank W. Hazlip, son of George William Hazlip and Luella Hershey, on 12 August 1939 at St. Louis, MO.¹ Eula F. Payne died on 18 June 2006 at age 86 dates per SSDI. She was buried in June 2006 at Mt. Catherine Cemetery, Casner Twp., Jefferson Co., IL.

     Eva F. Payne was born on 26 August 1912 at Washington or Clark Co., IN. She was the daughter of Ross LaFrance Payne and Maryetta Plott. Eva F. Payne married Russel C. McKinley, son of Jacob C. McKinley and Zella F. Martin, circa 1931.¹ Eva F. Payne lived in April 1940 at 2114 Willard Ave., New Albany, Floyd Co., IN.¹ She died on 30 September 2003 at Fairfax Co. (probably), VA, at age 91 dates per SSDI.

     Eva Grace Payne was born on 28 May 1888 at Washington Co., IN. She was the daughter of Samuel Oscar Payne and Dora Lincoln McClellan. Eva Grace Payne died on 19 December 1948 at Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN, at age 60. She was buried in December 1948 at Conway Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Fay Payne married Regina Conners.

     Flora Esther Payne was born on 9 January 1877 at Trenton, Grundy Co., MO.¹ She married Clifford Edward Holmes.¹ Flora Esther Payne died on 17 December 1959 at Tacoma, Thurston Co., WA, at age 82.

     Frances Payne was born on 31 October 1908 at Clark Co. (probably), IN.¹ She was the daughter of Claude B. Payne and Frances E. Lear.¹ Frances Payne married (?) Bottorff circa 1927 at Clark Co. (probably), IN.¹

     Frances J. Payne was also known as "Fannie". She was born circa 1834 at Brown Co., OH. She was the daughter of George Payne and Margaret (?)¹ Frances J. Payne married Samuel Pence on 19 October 1855 at Brown Co., OH. Frances J. Payne lived on 28 July 1870 at Allens Grove Twp., Scott Co., IA.² She died circa 1873 at Scott Co., IA.

     Frances Jane Payne was born circa 1854 at Ohio.¹ She married William Alexander Hutchison, son of Samuel Hutchison and Tamar Locke, in 1872.¹ Frances Jane Payne died before 1893 at Brown Co., OH.

     Francis Leonard Payne was born on 17 April 1856 at Washington Twp., Washington Co., IN.¹ He was the son of Henry Rice Payne and Caroline Davis.¹ Francis Leonard Payne married Myra J. Godfrey, daughter of James B. Godfrey and Nancy Adeline Peugh, in November 1910, no children. Francis Leonard Payne died on 6 October 1944 at Salem, Washington Co., IN, at age 88.      Freddie Ray Payne was born on 23 December 1891 at Washington Co., IN. He was the son of Samuel Oscar Payne and Dora Lincoln McClellan. Rites Wednesday For Ray Payne, Pekin Resident
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 16 at the Dawalt Chapel for Ray Payne, age 80, who passed away at 6 a.m. Monday at Scottsburg. Bro. Don Linn will officiate at the services and interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery.
He was born December 23, 1891 in Franklin Township, the son of Samuel and Dora McClellan Payne. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Bunker Hill Christian Church. He was a retired farmer and lived at Route 2, Pekin.
On November 5, 1914 he was married to Lelah M. Gorman Payne, who survives along with several nieces and nephews. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

He was buried in February 1972 at Olive Branch Cemetery, Polk Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Geneva M. Payne was born on 7 September 1917 at Washington Co., IN. She was the daughter of William Lebert Payne and Zella F. Motsinger. Geneva M. Payne married Marion Charles on 23 July 1933. Geneva M. Payne married (?) Cornwell. Geneva M. Payne died on 25 November 2003 at age 86.

     George Payne was born circa 1812 at Brown Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Benjamin C. Payne and Elizabeth Harriet Hutchison. George Payne married Margaret (?).¹ George Payne lived between 1850 and 1880 at Huntington Twp., Brown Co., OH.¹ He died after 1876 at Brown Co., OH.

     Grace Mary Payne was born on 5 July 1887 at Maynard, Fayette Co., IA. She married William Thomas Allen on 30 June 1920 at Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., IA. Grace Mary Payne died on 15 September 1972 at age 85. She was buried in September 1972 at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., IA, Findagrave #69124450.

     Harriet Payne was born circa 1838 at Huntington Twp., Brown Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of George Payne and Margaret (?)¹

     Harriet M. Payne was also known as "Hattie". She was born in 1853 at Washington Co., IN. She was the daughter of William Payne and Elizabeth Dawalt. Harriet M. Payne married David P. Still on 28 December 1876 at Ellis Co., TX. Harriet M. Payne died on 5 April 1879. She was buried in April 1879 at Waxahachie City Cemetery, Waxahachie, Ellis Co., TX, Findagrave #51167742.

     Harriette I. Payne was born on 15 July 1921 at Riverside, Riverside Co., CA. She married Gerald Byron Peebler, son of George Byron Peebler and Ethel Mercy Delancey, in 1941. Harriette I. Payne died on 2 May 2015 at Branford, New Haven Co., CT, at age 93.

     Harry Payne was born on 10 October 1860 at Washington Twp., Washington Co., IN. He was the son of Henry Rice Payne and Caroline Davis. Harry Payne died on 15 September 1861 at Washington Twp., Washington Co., IN. He was buried in September 1861 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem, Washington Co., IN.

     Harry K. Payne was born in January 1899 at Jackson Co. (probably), IN.¹ He was the son of Jordan Miller Payne and Elmira Josephine Bowers.¹

     Hazel G. Payne was born circa 1915 at Washington or Clark Co., IN. She was the daughter of Ross LaFrance Payne and Maryetta Plott. Hazel G. Payne married Charles Baker.

     Helen Payne was born on 22 October 1902. She was the daughter of Claude B. Payne and Frances E. Lear. Helen Payne married William T. Norman on 11 August 1923, no children. Helen Payne lived in April 1940 at 514 Seventh Street, Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN, census p.8A. She died on 11 November 1994 at age 92.

Please pardon my seemingly familiarity but so many friends have spoken of you in such affectionate terms that I feel I almost know you.
Perhaps Mrs. Pennington has mentioned that I am diligently trying to complete my Dawalt line, -- by the generous assistance of dear Leafa Payne Baynes. I completed my McCoy - Payne line & was received into membership in D. A. R. on 6 December 1968 (No. 537358). However my grandmother Anna Lucinda Tilford Payne was so proud of her Dawalt ancestry that I am very eager to complete this line for our posterity who may be appreciative of this effort.
Several persons have suggested you may be able to furnish the information desired in my outline.
In the "Historical Notes Concerning the Dawalt Family in Indiana" page 7 (Leafa's copy which was compiled Nora Dawalt Short) Polly is shown as child No. 4 of Henry Dawalt & Elizabeth Gross, - she is shown as married to Scott Tilford but unfortunately no birth or death dates are shown. Actually they were married only from 3/8/1827 to 9/15/1829 (his death is stated in the probating of his will), - so she may have remarried. I can find nothing regarding the day & month of William's birth but he is mentioned in John Scott Tilford's will, -- also I have a copy of both Anna Mary & John's marriage license & one of William & M. Elizabeth Denny's. I think it was Mr. Pete Hilton who suggested you had information regarding William's grave in Illinois, -- will you be so kind as to check your sources of historical data and see if you can find anything regarding these blanks?
I must tell you that your fame spreads far into the south, -- my cousin in Savannah, Ga. (presently in Alma, Ga) suggested your name, -- said you had furnished help for her mother who was my half aunt, -- Dora Lear, -- you may know that her father (my grandfather) was married twice -- my mother Frances Evelyn was daughter of James M. Lear and Frances Emmaline Cuddy, -- Frances Emmaline died when my mother was 9 days old & my mother was adopted by Mrs. Dennis Brewer (Anna) a sister to Mr. Sam Newlon (they are all buried at Hebron) (to keep the record straight, Frances Emmaline is buried at St. Joe Catholic Cemetery at St. Joe, Ind.)
I am most appreciative & grateful for any time - effort you may give to this very important research! My husband & I visited Leafa this past Tuesday - she is indeed a marvelous & delightful person, -- & I might add, I always hear this same remark about you! Thank you again!

Byron Payne, well known residence of Borden, died this morning (Thursday). He is survived by his wife, Anna, and two sons, Willis and Herman Payne.
Services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at Borden Union church. Body is at Littell Funeral Home, Borden.

Herman Payne
Jeffersonville - Herman R. Payne, 89, of 1920 New Albany - Charlestown Road, Jeffersonville, died Wednesday evening at Clark County Hospital.
He was a native of Borden and a retired brakeman for the Monon Railroad. He was a member of the Methodist Church, New Providence Masonic Lodge No 237 in Borden and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Dodson of Paducah, Ky., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dieckmann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

     Homer Ray Payne was born on 6 February 1890 at South Boston, Washington Co., IN.¹ He was the son of Samuel Newton Payne and Dora Amelia Williams.¹ Homer Ray Payne married Nellie D. Moore on 4 December 1914 at White Co., IN. Homer Ray Payne died in February 1981.
