They were the parents of a stillborn infant born in October, 1919, and they were listed together as husband and wife on the January, 1920, federal census. However, Vesta remarried, using her maiden name, to Earle Carter Wright on 10 May, 1922, under a marriage license filed 29 MAY 1922 in Washington County, PA, and had at least two children with him. She remarried a second time to John E. Ward on 1 NOV 1943 at Winchester, Virginia.2

She was a retired school teacher with 23 years' service with the Mount Vernon School District in Mount Vernon, Ind. She was a member of Cadiz Presbyterian Chapel; the Cadiz Newcomers Club; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; the Trigg County Hospital Auxiliary; and Kappa Kappa sorority. Surviving are her husband, Edward D. Johnson; one son, Bradley Johnson of Madisonville; one daughter, Jeannie Harrington of Franklin, Tenn; one brother, Don R. Pennington of Fresno, Calif; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. Her parents were Robert and Blanche Kirkpatrick Pennington.
