Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 3 from the Friends Church in Kendrick Township near Scranton for Mrs. Albert (Annie Zelma) Rice, 79, of Scranton.
The Rev Verl Sterns officiated. Mrs. Sterns was organist and Ken Monthei sang. Honorary casket bearers were Carl Simpson, Mike Rodney, Tim, Terry and Jim Todd, and David Rice. Casket bearers were grandsons, Randy Esslinger, Ronnie, Dennis, Rickie, Douglas and Tony Rice. Interment was in Dillavou Cemetery near Scranton. Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Scranton was in charge of arrangements. A prayer service was conducted at the funeral home Sunday evening.
Mrs. Rice was born Aug. 25, 1904 in Kendrick Twp, a daughter of Frank and Rose (Dillavou) Richards. She attended rural schools and Scranton High School.
She was married on Aug. 22, 1921 at the home of her parents in Kendrick Twp. to Albert Rice. She was a member of the Friends Church.
Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband; sons: Elvin of Des Moines, Howard and Donald of Jefferson, Leonard of Des Moines, and Lyle of West Des Moines; daughters Mrs. Gerald (Dorothy) Esslinger of Bayard, and Mrs. Judy Stogsdill of Des Moines; Lyle's step mother-in-law, Rose Richards Light of Jefferson; 28 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; five half-brothers and half-sisters: Herman Richards of Casey, Beulah of Waterloo, Lloyd Richards of Churdan, and Laura and Bethel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and a great great grandchild.

Evelyn R. Snyder, 87, of Hawthorne Drive died at 9:54 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 1994, at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis while attending an Indiana Pacers game.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she also was a member of Mary Martha Circle of the Church. She was a long-time doll collector and a member of 500 Dollers Club in Indianapolis, Columbus Antique Club and Rural Social Club. She was a long-time volunteer at Taylorsville United Methodist Church. She was an avid bridge player and was an avid Columbus Bulldogs fan. She had followed the team for 74 straight seasons.
Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with the Revs. Richard L. Christopher and Allan K. Wilson officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from noon until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brooke Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or American Heart Association.
Mrs. Snyder was born in Taylorsville Feb. 21, 1907, the daughter of Franklin B. and Jessie Sims Richards. She married Ralph H. Snyder April 15, 1928, in Taylorsville. He died Sept. 25, 1981.
Survivors include a son, Charles F. Snyder of Columbus; a daughter, Nancy Losure of Columbus; grandchildren, Jane Ann Gordon, David L. Losure and Franklin R. Snyder, all of Columbus, Michael J. Wilson of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Jeffrey C. Wilson of Lake Forest, Calif; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Darcia Durfey.
