He was born in 1905 near Reedsville, Preston County, a son of Charles and Nellie (Turner) Riley. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Garnette Greathouse Riley, and three sons, Willis Roscoe, Jr., age 12, William Melvin, age 10, and Kenneth Paul, age 7.
Mr. Riley worked for the Board of Education for the past 10 years, serving as a finance clerk and the county director of attendance. Prior to that, he taught for 12 years in the schools of Preston County.
He was a member of the Gladesville Baptist Church from 1931-1942, when he transferred his membership to the Kingwood Baptist Church. There, he served as the Sunday School Superintendent for a period of time.
Mr. Riley was a graduate of Masontown High School and Fairmont State Teachers College and was working toward a Master's Degree from WVU. He was a member of the K. of P. Lodge of Kingwood and served on the Board of Directors of the Kingwood Building and Loan Association.
In addition to his wife and sons, he was survived by his mother, Mrs. Nellie Riley of Reedsville; and brothers and sisters: Mrs. Maggie Metheny of Albright; Mrs. Herbert Zinn of Houston, PA; Mrs. Ruby Thompson of Niagara Falls, NY; and Ressie Riley and Guy Riley of Reedsville.
He was a loving husband and father to his family, and he will be remembered by all of his relatives, co-workers, and friends as a hard worker and one who made a lasting contribution to the school children of Preston County.
Funeral services were held in the Kingwood Baptist Church on Monday afternoon, November 8, with Reverend Hall and Reverend Higginbotham officiating. Interment followed in the Gordon Cemetery.
