Joseph Rodgers was born on 19 July 1871 at Ripley Twp., Huron Co., OH, per Ohio Births and Christenings Index, 1774-1973 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc. 2011. 1900 census shows 1872, however it also shows that he was first listed as 28 years of age, then the "8" was overwritten with a "7".2,3 He was the son of John Rodgers and Lucinda A. Weaver.2 Joseph Rodgers lived on 8 June 1900 at Jefferson Twp., Whitley Co., IN.3 He married Bertha Belle Malotte, daughter of Joseph Orlando Malotte and Samantha Turner, on 2 September 1902 at Whitley Co., IN. Joseph Rodgers lived on 26 April 1910 at 214 Jackson Street, Columbia, Whitley Co., IN, laborer, ditching.1 He died after April 1910
Joseph Rodgers was listed as age 28 in the 1910 census -- an error of 10 years. He was born in 1871, as per the Huron County, Ohio birth record and the 1880 and 1900 censuses. It is most curious that he and his wife Bertha were listed living together with their four children in April, 1910, and yet Bertha remarried to William Judson Windle six months later in November of the same year. No later evidence of this Joseph Rodgers has been found -- his parents and his son Willard are buried in Columbia City. His fate is unknown. DLB 2019.
