TIPTON--A Tipton and a Tecumseh man were electrocuted when a grain auger they were moving struck a 7,200 volt electrical line about 4 p.m. Wednesday. Killed were Larry Jon McVay, 39, of 7554 Tipton Hwy., and Edward Ross Schadewald, 18, of 5619 Centennial Rd., Tecumseh. According to a sheriff's department report, the two were filling silos at McVay's parents' farm, 7794 Tipton Hwy. Schadewald was moving a grain auger with a tractor when the auger struck the power lines near
the driveway. McVay's mother, Maria McVay, told officials that Schadewald yelled when the auger touched the lines and her son ran to the tractor and grabbed Schadewald. Both were knocked off the tractor and thrown to the ground. Mrs. McVay was working in her yard at the time. Members of the Sand Lake fire department rescue squad were the first to arrive at the scene. Their efforts to revive
the two men failed, and they were pronounced dead on arrival at Bixby Hospital. The sheriff's department report said the power lines, located 100 to 150 yards off the roadway, were more than 32 feet high, according to the Consumers Power employees. A tire on the tractor was set on fire by the electrical surge.

Stanley R. Schadewald, age 78, of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Adrian on July 26, 1939, the son of William and Mary (Hegy) Schadewald. On October 10, 1959, he married Shirley A. Furgason at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra and she survives.
Stanley graduated from Deerfield High School with the Class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957-1959.
He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. Stanley had a passion for restoring classic “pickup trucks” and he worked as a farmer. In 2004 he retired from GM Powertrain in Toledo, where he was a machine repairman. Stanley was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving in addition of his wife, Shirley are two daughters, Sue (Dale) Southard of Blissfield, Debra (Rodger) Gallaway of Deerfield; a son, David (Tammy) Schadewald of Lima, OH; two brothers, Norm Schadewald of Blissfield, Charles Schadewald of Adrian; two sisters, Maybelle (Gayln) Berry of Blissfield, Donna Case of Adrian; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Edward, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services for Stanley, will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11 AM at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield with Pastor Philip Krieger officiating. Burial will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. Emory I. Schaeffer, 47, a weaver at the William J. Dickey woolen mill, Oella, died unexpectedly Monday at 8:30 p.m. at his home, Walnut Avenue, Sykesville. Carroll County Medical Examiner Dr. W. G. Speicher attributed death to a heart attack.
Mr. Schaeffer was a veteran of World War II. He was the son of Mrs. Mae Schaeffer, Oakland Mills, and the late George Schaeffer.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Edith Klingelhofer Schaeffer; a daughter, Mrs. Dolores Fogle, Randallstown; Mrs. Bertha Lear, Baltimore; Mrs. Georgia Phillips, Sykesville; Mrs. Catherine Garver, Finksburg; Allen Schaeffer, Ellicot City and Brice Schaeffer, Brooklandville, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at the Haight funeral home, Sykesville, tomorrow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas Stewart pastor of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Sykesville, officiation. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Randallstown.
He was buried in June 1963 at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, Carroll Co., MD, Findagrave #171889060.
