Ralph Wilson Semler married Frances Luella Welton, daughter of Thomas Seymore Welton and Fannie E. Barger, on 8 March 1939. Ralph Wilson Semler began military service WW II service, U.S. Navy, EM1. He died on 20 January 2011 at Fairborn, Greene Co., OH, at age 93. He was buried in January 2011 at Medway Cemetery, Medway, Clark Co., OH, Findagrave #99629364.

     Robert Franklin Semler was born on 8 September 1923 at Osborn, Greene Co., OH. He was the son of Herman Walter Semler and Callie Mae Axman. Robert Franklin Semler began military service WW II service, U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Mildred Ceroa Lytle, daughter of Scott Erwin Lytle and Helen M. Fluhart, on 26 October 1946. SEMLER, Robert F. "Bob", age 88, of Fairborn, OH, died peacefully Saturday, April 28, 2012. Bob was born in Osborn Corners, OH on Sept. 8, 1923 to the late Herman & Callie (Axman) Semler.

He was an Army Air Corp veteran, retired from WPAFB. He was a member of the American Legion Post #526, Friends of the National Museum of the U.S.A.F. and of the Waco Historical Society.

He was also preceded in death by

     Susanna Ellas Semler was born on 10 July 1875 at Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of Walter John Semmler and Dorotha Wilhelmina Louisa Schmidt. Susanna Ellas Semler married George Henry Gheen, son of Thomas Gheen and Mary Jane Heffner, on 18 May 1893. Susanna Ellas Semler lived in 1939 at near New Carlisle, Clark Co., OH. She died on 3 February 1949 at age 73.

     Thelma M. Semler was born on 20 June 1907 at Greene Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Charles E. Semler and Edna P. Graham. Thelma M. Semler married Starling L. Good in 1952. Thelma M. Semler was buried in 1984 at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH. She died on 15 December 1984 at Upper Sandusky, Wyandot Co., OH, at age 77.      Virginia E. Semler was born on 12 April 1924 at Montgomery Co., OH, 1920 census shows age 10. ??? She was the daughter of Charles E. Semler and Edna P. Graham. Virginia E. Semler married Robert Lee Apple, son of Perry Fernando Apple and Maude Grace Olinger. Virginia E. Semler died on 17 July 2000 at Montgomery Co., OH, at age 76. She was buried in July 2000 at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH, Findagrave #90401809.

     William Frederick Semler was born on 13 February 1867 at Montgomery Co., OH.^1,2 He was the son of Walter John Semmler and Dorotha Wilhelmina Louisa Schmidt. William Frederick Semler married Emma Ruth Kessler, daughter of Andrew Kessler and Anna Caylor, circa 1893.³ William Frederick Semler lived on 5 June 1900 at Osborn, Greene Co., OH, in his mother in-law's home.³ He died on 21 April 1943 at Greene Co., OH, at age 76. He was buried in April 1943 at Medway Cemetery, Medway, Clark Co., OH.

     William Marion Semler was also known as "Mike". He was born on 8 August 1909 at Yellowstone Co. (probably), MT.¹ He was the son of Charles Michael Semler and Ella Marie Warwick. William Marion Semler married Martha McAdams on 7 November 1931. William Marion Semler died on 25 April 1964 at age 54.

     Semler was born on 20 June 1949. He was the son of Orland Richard Semler and Florence Luella Batdorf. Semler died on 2 July 1949.

     Anna Maria Semmler was born circa 1822 at Unterseiben (Unter-Seibertenrod), Amt Grünberg (now Vogelsbergkreis), Hessen Darmstadt, Germany.^1,2 She was the daughter of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.¹ Anna Maria Semmler married George Grane before August 1846, they were married in Germany prior to immigrating to the U.S. in August, 1846.¹

     Note: The German surname "Semmler" is derived from "semmel", a small baked bread traditionally from the southern region of modern Germany.

Anecdotal information and some online genealogies indicate a daughter named Rosa born 1857 in Dayton, married to a Rahn, and cite the 1880 census, Dayton, Ohio, in which a Rosa, age 23, is the wife of M. C. Rahn. But that Rosa is listed as having both parents born in Ohio. Moreover, Catherine Semmler would have been about 54 years old in 1857, based on her 1850 age. The family tradition is that six children immigrated with the family, and the 1846 ship's passenger list accounts for six children coming with Caspar, so I doubt the "Rosa" theory very much. Caspar Semmler was born circa 1802 at Unterseiber (now Unter-Seibertenrod), Amt Grünberg (now Vogelsbergkreis), Hessen Darmstadt, Holy Roman Empire (now Germany), Caspar gave his age as 44 in August, 1846, for the ship's passenger list.¹ He married Maria Catherine Roth, The passenger list for the ship Luisa from Bremen to Baltimore, dated 24 AUG 1846, shows Caspar Semmler and his children and son in-law, but does not show a wife. It is possible that she immigrated earlier or later, and it is also possible that the Catherine Semler listed on the 1850 census with his younger children was a second wife, and not their mother, but no marriage record has been found in the U.S.A. More research needed. DLB 2015.^1,2

(2) A Frederick "Simler", born about 1830 in "Bavaria Germany", is found in the 1860 census, living in Mad River Twp., Montgomery County, Ohio adjacent to a Frederick Swartz, butcher, who may have had some relationship with the Schwartz husband of Elizabeth Semmler, daughter of Caspar Semmler. This same Frederick Semler family closely matches the Frederick and Mary Semler family found in 1870 Columbus, Ward 7, Franklin County, Ohio. The only match in 1850 is to a Frederick Semler in Hagerstown, Maryland. Further research needed to determine his parents. Also, a Caspar Semler is buried in the Dayton, Ohio Veterans Administration cemetery, with Civil War service. I suspect this was the Caspar Semmler, age 19 and born in Hessen Darmstadt, listed in the 1860 census, Springfield, Ohio, with no obvious relationship to the Semlers of Montgomery and Greene Counties (but with the same Hessen Darmstadt origin). Further research is needed to confirm. DLB 2015.

     Elizabeth Catherina Semmler was also known as "Elizabeth" The marriage record shows Catherine Semler, but the 1870 and 1900 censuses show "Elizabeth". She was born in December 1832 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, listed as 13 on the ship's passenger list (AUG 1846.)^1,2 She was the daughter of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.² Elizabeth Catherina Semmler married Valentin Heinrich Schwartz, son of Marcus Schwartz and Elizabeth Ballis, on 9 March 1859 at Montgomery Co., OH, Ceremony by Hermann Borchars. Elizabeth Catherina Semmler and Valentin Heinrich Schwartz were divorced before June 1900; Valentin and Elizabeth were living alone in separate residences as of the 1900 census, marital status was "D" for both of them. Elizabeth Catherina Semmler died on 10 October 1913 at age 80.

     George W. Semmler was born on 20 April 1866 date calculated from headstone inscription which appears to read "Aged 13YS. 8M. 23 D." He was the son of John Henry Semmler and Eliza Elizabeth Detrick. George W. Semmler died on 12 January 1880 at Bath Twp., Greene Co., OH, at age 13. He was buried in January 1880 at Fairfield Cemetery, Fairborn, Greene Co., OH, Findagrave #76742284.

     Henry Semmler was born in 1836 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany.^1,2,3 He was the son of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.² Henry Semmler married Fredericke Louisa (?) in 1859. Henry Semmler died on 17 June 1926 at Montgomery Co., OH. He was buried in June 1926 at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH.

     John Henry Semmler was born on 24 January 1843 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. He was the son of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.¹ John Henry Semmler married Eliza Elizabeth Detrick, daughter of George Detrick and Sophia Miller, circa 1862.² John Henry Semmler died on 5 December 1924 at Springfield, Clark Co., OH, at age 81. He was buried in December 1924 at Fairfield Cemetery, Fairborn, Greene Co., OH, Findagrave #76742314.

     Maria Catherina Elizabeth Semmler was also known as "Catherine". She was born in March 1827 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany.^1,2,3,4,5 She was the daughter of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.² Maria Catherina Elizabeth Semmler married Lewis Niemeier on 11 April 1850 at Montgomery Co., OH, license application 6 APR 1850 names her "Catherine Simler".

Note: This person "Catherina" listed in the family on the 1850 census appears to be the same individual as the "Elizabeth" listed on the ship's passenger list -- the age differs by one year and the birth order is a match. Elizabeth could have been the calling name of a child christened Catherina Elisabetha. On the 1850 census she is annotated "insane" -- perhaps a language issue with the enumerator, since the surname was also mangled to read "Cimley". DLB 2015.^1,2

     Walter John Semmler was born on 1 September 1829 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, 1870 census shows age "39."^1,2 He was the son of Caspar Semmler and Maria Catherine Roth.¹ Walter John Semmler married Dorotha Wilhelmina Louisa Schmidt on 6 May 1854 at Montgomery Co., OH. Walter John Semmler lived in 1880 at Harrison Twp., Montgomery Co., OH, the second "M" in "Semmler" was dropped by 1880.³ He died on 8 August 1916 at Mad River Twp., Montgomery Co., OH, at age 86 Ohio Death Records:
