He retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service. He loved to fish in the Gulf of Mexico every day and was very involved with family activities, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved to help his neighbors with their needs. He was a member of the American Legion in Corpus Christi and also the Fleet Reserve Officer Association. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Hahn) Shields, of Corpus Christi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Shields and Russell Shields.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
