     William H. Sloggett began military service "Mr. Sloggett's father was a native of London, England, coming to America, he married Miss Horner of Vermont and settled in Quebec. William H. Sloggett left Granby in 1856 and settled in Forreston, Ill., was a volunteer member of Sherman's army, the Army of the Cumberland, in Co. H., 34th Regt., 2d Div. of the 14th Army Corps. He received a gunshot wound in the head and was left for dead on the battlefield of Kenesaw Mountain, Ga., June 27, 1864, but recovered an continued with the army until he was honorably discharged, July 12, 1865. After the war he settled on a farm near Adeline, Ill., where he resided for over fifty years, an honorable and respected citizen." -- From a newspaper clipping.¹ He was born on 18 November 1844 at Granby, Quebec, Canada.
