Seven children can be identified from the 1880 and 1900 censuses, and six are listed on the 1900 census, five living with their mother and Margaret Schandelmeier living with the Gearhart family. Her daughter Mary Brier, listed on the 1880 census, apparently did not survive to 1900.2

Mrs. Ellen Berry, 88, who had lived the most of her life in Story county, died Sunday afternoon at 5:30 at the Story County Home where she had been confined since July 26, 1925 having been transferred there from the state hospital for the insane at Clarinda, where she had been committed for treatment November 21, 1922.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Morfoot Funeral home and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
She was the widow of the late Isaac Berry who died in 1927. Her marriage to Mr. Berry was her second and she leaves at this time two sons and one daughter in Nevada, they being Fred Shandlemier, generally known as Fred Berry, Isaac Berry and Mrs. Susie Epperly.

She was a charter member of Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ in Creve Coeur, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the primary department. She also was on the building committee when the new church was built in 1950.
Ermil enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flowers, working in her yard, and caring for her family.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ in Creve Coeur. Pastor Paul Isom will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

The service honoring Eunice's life will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Sersland officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Foundation.
Eunice is survived by her sons, Gary Knutson, Chatham, Ill; Steve (Kathy) Knutson, Polo, Ill; five grandsons, Packard, James, Brett, Rick and Ken; two great-grandchildren, Niklas and Emily; and a brother John T. Smith, Willsonville, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother Linsfield Smith, and a sister Doris Williams.
Eunice B. Smith, the daughter of J. Chester and Linna (Burkes) Smith, was born August 3, 1921 in Paris, Mo. She graduated from Paris High School in 1939 and attended Hannibal-LaGrange College at Hannibal, Mo., and Kirksville Teachers College. Eunice taught school in Monroe County, Mo., for five years. On October 11, 1947, Eunice was united in marriage to Donald S. Knutson at Paris, Mo. The couple lived in North Hollywood, Calif., and Panorama City, Calif., until moving to Fort Dodge in 1955. Eunice worked with her husband as the bookkeeper for Knutson Construction. Her husband preceded her in death in 1977.
Eunice was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was past co-chair of the prayer chain. She was also active with the Altar Guild and the Peace Circle. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.
She was buried in October 2011 at Fort Dodge Memorial Park, Ft. Dodge, Webster Co., IA, Findagrave #78026481.
