Arthur L. Snapp, 90, one of King City’s oldest citizens and a resident here more than forty years, died Saturday at Missouri Methodist hospital, St. Joseph, after a brief serious illness. Hi funeral was held here Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. F. Edward Carter, minister, and burial was in the King City cemetery. Special music at the funeral was by Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Berry.
“Artie” Snapp, as he was more familiarly known, was born Feb. 27, 1861 near Greenbush, Warren County, Ill., a son of Robert M. and Clarissa Snapp. In 1872 he was brought by his parents to a farm near Winslow in DeKalb county, and there he grew to young manhood and began his career as a farmer. Later he moved to Union Star, where for twenty years he was associated with his brother-in-law the late Hugh Stanton in the hardware and inplement (sic) business. After that he engaged in the real estate and bluegrass business until frail health forced his retirement a few years ago.
In 1912 Mr. Snapp married Miss Myrtle Estes Ross of Fairport, who preceded him in death May 15, 1931. They lived in Fairport a short time before moving to King City, where he spent the remainder of his life except the last eight months which were spent in a rest home in St. Joseph. One of the oldest living members of the Christian church here, he attended church services faithfully as long as his health permitted. His business operations where conducted over a wide territory, throughout which he established many lasting friendships, and his happiest hours in recent years were spent visiting with friends.
Note: Arthur is in my database because he was mistakenly believed to be a son of Madison Charles Snapp. There were two Arthur Snapps born in 1861 -- this was the son of Robert and Clarissa Snapp, and not known to be a descendant of Johannes Schnepp who married Anna Maria Wendel. DLB 2023.
