He married Deborah Ann Johnson on December 13, 1973 in Purcell. They remained living in the Purcell area where they raised three sons.
In 1974 he began working for the Santa Fe Railroad, later, BNSF, Burlington Northern Santa Fe. He was also a Regional Truck Driver, of bridge and railroad train track ties across the U.S. After 39 years, he retired in 2012 with BNSF Railroad.
Throughout his life he loved working and being in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He also enjoyed working on his farm, spending time on his mower and tractor. One of his most recent hobbies was making figurines out of railroad ties and horseshoes which he enjoyed giving to friends and family. However most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by; Parents, Raymond and Betty Smith; Younger brother, Gary Don Smith.
He is survived by: Wife, Debbie Smith; Three sons, Michael, Greg and Chris Smith; Five grandchildren, Hope, Haileigh, Hunter, Maebry and Graydon; One brother, Lee Smith; One sister, Ivy Galloway; Mother-in-law, Betty Johnson; Brother-in-law, Gary Johnson; and Sister-in-law, Teresa Bacon.

Virginia spent most of her life on a farm as a housewife and mother until 1960 when she began working as an LPN in several nursing homes for 28 years, beginning at Blue Hill, Buffalo Valley, Hollie Peace and Rathfon's, retiring in 1989.
She attended God's Missionary Church in Sunbury for more than 50 years since it began in 1960.
Virginia is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Sharon Hahn and Dan and Brenda Hahn; two daughters and one son-in-law, Joanna Aurand and Esther and Russ Spade; six grandsons and their spouses, Barry and Sherry Hahn, Michael and Joy Hahn, Brian and Ashlee Hahn, Terry and Deserea Aurand, Ted Aurand and Thomas Aurand; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one stepbrother, Eugene Smith.
