Johannes Snapp was also known as "John".
Note: John Snapp was a Revolutionary War soldier (as were most of his brothers) in Capt. John Tipton's Company of Dunmore, Shenandoah County, Militia with the rank of Ensign (see Revolutionary War Records - Virginia by Brumbaugh). He was also a Tax collector for Lord Fairfax. He sold horses to George Washington. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace by Governor Patrick Henry on August 27, 1778 in Shenandoah Co. About 1790 he purchased 694 acres on Mill Creek, Rockingham County, Virginia (named Meadow View). This land he purchased from Thomas Stephenson the son of John Stephenson, the earliest settler in the Mill Creek Valley. At that time he was one of the largest landowners in Rockingham Co. By an Act of Assembly passed December 7, 1791 he was made a trustee of the newly formed town of Keezletown along with George Houston and five other citizens. (Hennings Statutes, Vol. 13, p. 297). In 1792 he was granted an ordinary (tavern) license at this home on Mill Creek. This land and tavern were later sold to David Kyle. July 26, 1793 he purchased an additional 275 Acres and in February 1815 sold 352 acres for $18,500. October 20, 1814 he purchased 296 acres for $1,000.00 on both sides of Limestone Creek, Washington County, Tennessee near Greene County. His daughter, Susannah Snapp, married George Houston, uncle to Sam Houston.

John Snapp immigrated in August 1733 to Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA; on the ship Samuel. He married Catherine (?) circa 1744. John Snapp was naturalized in May 1746 at Winchester, Frederick Co., VA; Frederick County Order Book 2, at page 194.
Note: In April 1750 he obtained a survey for 400 acres along Little North Mountain. He also obtained a survey of 315 acres 21 May 1753 on the head branches of Hogs Creek & Cedar Creek adjacent John Dyer with patent granted 17 May 1762. (Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, Vol II, Book G). He also received his father's 400 acre farm in 1762.
He was a foot soldier in the French and Indian War in Captain Lewis Stephens Company of Frederick County. He was discharged September 2, 1755 (Frederick County Militia Records Book 18).
His will was written August 20, 1786, and it was probated on December 6, 1786 (Frederick County Will Book "5", at page 152.) In his will, John Jr left 400 acres to his son Jacob, another 400 acres to his son, Joseph, and the 315 acre tract to his daughter, Catherine Spelman. He died in 1786 at Frederick Co., VA.
