Christena Rebecca Snell

F, b. February 1852, d. 30 November 1916
Christena Rebecca Snell was born in February 1852 at Augusta or Rockingham Co., VA.1 She was the daughter of Henry Snell and Anna Garber.1 Christena Rebecca Snell married Zachariah T. Holp, son of John Holp and Mary Ann Stoner, on 25 January 1876 at Rockingham Co., VA. Christena Rebecca Snell died on 30 November 1916 at Preble Co., OH, at age 64. She was buried in December 1916 at Parish Cemetery, Arlington, Montgomery Co., OH, Findagrave Memorial #41862713.
Note: Numerous online genealogies show Christena's parents as Christian Snell, Sr. and Susannah, daughter of George Wein. However, the 1860 census listings in Rockingham County, while a little ambiguous, are not consistent with those facts. There is a Christina Snell, age 5, listed under Anna Snell, age 45, who appears to be a recent widow with a number of other children, and there is also a Christian and Susan Snell family whose youngest child is age 14. A record in Virginia, Select Marriages, 1785-1940 l, p.132, lists Christina R. Snell as the child of Anna and Henry Snell, and this record reflects the marriage to Zachariah T. Holp (misspelled "Halp"), son of Mary Ann and John. Going back to the 1850 census, the same Anna Snell with the same older children is found in Augusta County, wife of Henry Snell, age 41. Thus, I believe that Christena, wife of Zachariah Holp, was the daughter of Henry Snell (abt. 1809 - 22 FEB 1860) and Anna Garber (1811-1872). DLB 2017.
