In "Berks County Soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, 1775-1784" we find under Christian Stauffer: "Born 1720, died 1797, buried at Mennonite Cemetery, Bally, PA. Arch, 3rd ser, vol. 5, p 754, Cap. Philip Hawn's Co." (DAVIS) He owned land at Douglas township, Montgomery county from 1756 to 1772. (from Stauffer/Bower) At the outbreak of the Revolutionary war in 1775 his neighbor, Anthony Wayne, recruited a regiment of volunteers. Christian joined the Sons of Liberty, enlisted in General Waynes's regiment and accompanied him throughout the conflict. He took part in the battles of Three Rivers, Ticonderoga, Brandywine, Monmouth, Stony Point, Green Springs, Va., and Yorktown. After the close of the war he settled down to farming in New Hanover township, Montgomery county, PA. Christian Stauffer was born on 18 December 1728 at Perkiomen Twp., Montgomery Co., PA. He was the son of Jacob Stauffer and Barbara (?) Christian Stauffer died on 14 May 1797 at Colebrookdale Twp., Berks Co., PA, at age 68. He was buried in May 1797 at Bally Mennonite Cemetery, Washington Twp., Berks Co., PA.

The verdict was rendered in favor of the Stauffers.' This story has not been verified by the present writer." Christian was a Private in the Revolutionary Army. Christian Hess Stauffer was born on 6 December 1736 at Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He was the son of Jacob Stauffer and Magdalena Hess. Christian Hess Stauffer married Veronica Poorman on 16 November 1764 at Lancaster Co., PA. Christian Hess Stauffer died on 13 April 1808 at Franklin Co., PA, at age 71.

Note: Daniel Stauffer settled with his father and two brothers in Colebrookdale Twp. in Berks Co, PA, where he bought property of Gerhart Clemens, agent for David Powell, on Jan 8, 1720. He also bought a tract in partnership with Gerhart Clemens Jan 14, 1725, which he afterward sold to Clemens. Daniel sold his homestead Sept 1, 1762 to his son, Abraham. It has been in the Stauffer name continuously ever since. (Mennonite Hist Soc) (DAVIS) Daniel was age 12 when he left Alsheim in 1709. He married Catherina Merckle. He bought land at Colebrookdale 8 Jan 1720, from Gerhart Clemens, his brother-in-law. He sold the same land to his son Abraham 1 Sep 1762. In 1725 he gave money to his brother-in-law, Gerhart Clemens. He signed the Colebrook petition at Falkner's swamp in 1728, asking for assistance from the Governor to fend off the Indians. Also signing the petition were, Jost Heid, Christian Neuschwanger, Peter Boehm, Gerhart Clemens, and others. He received land on the west branch of Perkiomen Creek in 1730 from his brother, Jacob. He was living at Perkiomen in 1733. He was taxed at Colebrookdale 1752 to 1762. He lived at Hereford in 1763, where he died sometime later. He was a shoemaker by trade. One of his daughters was married to Abraham Bowman of Hereford. Mennonite. Daniel Stauffer married Catherine Merckle. Daniel Stauffer was born circa 1697 at Alsheim, Palatinate. In 1785, Daniel Stauffer of Paradise Twp., York Co., miller, purchased 104 acres of land in Hellam Twp., York county for 833 pounds from Christian Rathfang and his wife. Daniel Stauffer was born on 1 September 1749 at Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He was the son of Jacob Stauffer and Magdalena Hess. Daniel Stauffer married Margaret (?). Daniel Stauffer died on 15 September 1818 at Hellam Twp., York Co., PA, at age 69.
